Wedding dresses are the ultimate keepsake. An artifact of the day she says, “I do.” Because fabric holds memory, the fashion house behind the stitch matters. These vignettes were courtesy of Mira Couture, a luxury bridal atelier in Chicago’s Gold Coast. I had the pleasure of profiling its owner, Julie Mersine Romeli, for Modern Luxury. Like an heirloom passed from one woman to another, so too has Mira Couture changed hands without losing its thread. Founder Mira Horoszowski’s 50-year legacy lives on through Julie. Long ago, I landed an internship in creative design at Ralph Lauren. It’s where I learned to tie my first bow tie on a Purple Label suit, and source vintage Americana for window displays. 19-year-old me soaked up everything I could from design directors visiting from Paris to Beverly Hills. The Chicago location is secretly the brand’s largest storefront in the world, and home to the very first RL Restaurant. Byline for Modern Luxury Interiors’ New England Landscape & Architecture issue earlier this year. Freelancing keeps me in the editor’s chair while running the studio full-time.
