Lowkey not a fav cafe but it’s optimal for getting work done because it’s a hotel lounge which means lots of seating, long hours, stable wifi, food/drinks/water, charging, etc. But it’s also quite pricey and not worth the cost? I think if you stick with a simple drink it shall be worth.

I got here at 8 and no one was there so it was a super optimal environment for finishing my final paper. Some cute racially ambiguous baristas made my little drink and I was so focused cuz of the calm music that they play and the performance I had to execute in front of the rich, artsy hotel guests. I also think a lot of events occur here so you can spot some influencers/celebs on the DL.

pros: study spot trifecta
cons: premium on drinks not worth it

toronto desperately needs a record player cafe cuz i ate this up! located in shibuya and shimokita, recoco is a cafe where you can listen to a wide variety of records. they offer a lot of western and japanese albums and me and my white washed japanese baddie did not struggle to find something to listen to at all.

obv you pay a sitting fee of around 1k yen but they have student discounts. tip is to also visit on a weekday for lower fees. you also have to order a drink and a dessert doesn’t count as a substitute. but our melon cream soda was buss and perfect for this showa vibe. we saw some people studying which i honestly thought was such a good idea because the sitting fee forces you to lock tf in.

pros: variety of records
cons: sitting fee but like duh

Found a very spacious and fun Korean cafe near orange street that’s perfect for catching your breath at after your shopping. their Christmas decorations were still up which were adorable to see, as well as some Christmas inspired desserts that we didn’t get to try.

I loved my dirty matcha and emiri her americano cuz it was dark roast. The highlight was how spacious and interactive the place is. Japanese cafes tend to be tiny and makes you feel bad for overstaying your welcome during busy hours, which was not the case here (although we visited on new years eve). Also, there was a free photo booth near the entrance which was adorable.

I think I even saw some seats at the back with headphones where you can listen to music from a CD player? Not sure tbh but would be nice cuz who ever was on aux today was not on the same wavelength as me lmao.

pros: cute decorations & free photo booth
cons: none?

first visited their honmachi location and it was too dark to get some nice pics at night. i knew to get their dirty matcha which is just called a matcha latte because emiri highly recommended it. for a tiny drink she is expensive but definitely worth how fucking smooth the coffee is. just make sure to swivel it around because they recommend you to not use a straw.

shit was so good i knew i had to try their other location which was smaller. i think i liked it more tho because im a sucker for patio seats. i also tried their mont blanc tart which was good but not mind blowing. the tart bit got too frozen out in the cold for me to enjoy too.

i was reading my book and the barista came up to me striking up a convo about it later which made my day cuz i love talking to kansai-jin. the staff are also bilingual cuz there are some tourists. oh and they were playing jazz inside as if they didn’t already have my heart.

pros: THE DIRTY MATCHA
cons: very popular

on the 6th floor of the flagship muji store that’s also on the lobby of their hotel, the muji coffee and salon is a modern space to get some work done. the artwork on display connecting the lobby and the cafe area was nice to enjoy during a study break.

but other than that, the cafe itself was nothing special. i’m assuming they use their instant matcha powder for the matcha latte which was not up to my standards at all. the sandwich was good but not anything special. the chats were not ergonomic and i didn’t get much work done. i would kill some time here if i stayed in the hotel but i wouldn’t go out of my way to try the cafe.

pros: cool concept
cons: quality of drinks
