Bertie was my dream dog. Watching Little Mermaid as a kid, I wanted to be Prince Eric with a bounding Old English Sheepdog behind me. In 2012, we saw someone in Fort Langley having their first litter of Sheepadoodles. Close enough. At the age of 22 and 24, Fredo (@ammur88) and I brought Engelbert aka Bertie home. For over 14 years, he marked so many transformative chapters in our lives. Careers, dreams, relationships. Bertie taught us responsibility, what it means to put someone else before yourself, and to save enough money to pay for their grooming and lately expensive vet bills. He also made life consistent, predictable and scheduled.

Bertie, aka Doodles, aka Peanut butter toes, aka Bugs, was a very trustworthy companion. He never showed an ounce of aggression, having all of my nephews and nieces climbing all over him. While he was calm with kids, Bertie also knew you exactly what he wanted, and knew exactly how to get what he wanted. Some dogs are dumb (shout out to Ellie - RIP), but Bertie to the very end, knew everything going on, peoples motives and the buttons he could push.

He was a stunner and I can't believe after almost 15 years, we no longer have a giant head shoving their nose under our arms at the dinner table or popping up at 5:30am to say it's time to get up.

So… how was your Valentine’s Day? 👀🤎

Ours included Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, a world premiere, and a room full of music lovers at the Vancouver Playhouse.

Not a bad way to spend February 14.

Exciting news! Our resident conductor, Stuart Martin, is making his appearance at our Chamber Orchestra Series. 🙌

On April 11th, Stuart will guide the orchestra through most of the program—from Albinoni’s mysterious Adagio to Diamond’s energetic Rounds for String Orchestra.

This past week was undoubtedly the biggest week of my life.

On Wednesday, @talkshopmedia launched Talk Shop LA, a project I've been working towards for the past year. On Friday, I made my debut as the Resident Conductor of @vmocanada.

I've never worked harder and I couldn't have done it without my mentors and leaders on both sides to support and guide me through it. At Friday's concert, it was like my life was on display in the audience with my family, friends, and colleagues there cheering me on. It meant the world to me.

It's hard to put words down on how much love emanated from Grandma. No matter what was happening in your life, the darkest and the lightest of times, you knew Grandma was there to listen. The closest word I can get to in describing who she was is magic.

Across her 99 years, her ability to love unconditionally pulled people into her orbit. Our family doesn't just consist of immediate family members. My family is made up of an extraordinary web of people who Grandma adopted as one of her own.

I'm forever grateful for her open heart and for making me feel seen, for making me feel safe and for making me feel loved. I miss you so much, and I promise to take your whimsy and kindness everywhere I go. by @stuiy
