One of my most prized possessions happens to be a Bob Mackie piece I picked up from an angel of a costume designer during her yard sale in North Hollywood many years ago. I’d always thought I’d use it in a shoot one day, but til then, it lived proudly on my wall. It was a showgirl’s backpack, constructed of wire and lace and glitter and stars for a Miss Universe pageant in the 60s in Las Vegas.

I have always been a Mackie fan. What’s not to love about a man who mastered silhouette, spangles, and scandalously placed sequins. What many people don’t know though, is how much he contributed to plus size fashion. His QVC line never got the recognition it deserved, but while mall brands and department stores put plus size women in different drab versions of the same navy dress, Mackie made works of art for bodies above a size 12. The numerous vintage Mackie pieces in my Poshmark saves will no doubt have a price hike tomorrow. Snooze ya lose, eh?

But then, I have this. There was one year with @equalityfashionweek where my pal @nikkacy recruited me as a volunteer stylist, but I came down with a flu that wouldn’t quit, so I had to. I felt terrible about the whole thing, but like some little bit of Hollywood magic, Nik offered me the opportunity to contribute one showstopper piece of stardust to event: my Bob Mackie piece would walk in the finale of the show.

And oh my god. Bob Mackie perched on toned shoulders of an angel? Like some master of the universe? That actually feels more meaningful than any colorful vintage button down I’d nab used online. Thank you, Nik, for this little moment in history, marked in sparkles. And thank you, Bob, for the ways you saw bodies, and sparkle, and risks, and color, and light. Nobody will ever be you, but everyone who learned from you was better for it.

I’m not usually a renaissance fair person but @joelladuncan found this dress at Buffalo Exchange last weekend and it was really kind of too great for that sort of thing. Plus I’ll take any excuse to spend time with @miccifournier, and pop bubbles and eat fries with @benjamin_sturgill_ , who looks so debonair here. Can I say that? Back on the 15th I married my best friend. We moved really fast due to some health issues but we were gonna get here all the same. Our wedding was thrown together in two weeks and it was amazing! To all my friend and family that could make it, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. To all the new friends I made and to the family I joined, I am blessed everyday to be warmed by your light. @styleethic by @styleethic

Went to Austin to rep @giveusthefloor just long enough to meet these lovely people and come home with a heart full of love for all the big-hearted people in the @youngfuturesorg community changing the world ✨. I did have an outfit change that didn’t come to pass (honey I was too hot for all that bother!) but I need you to know that it was good enough that I may just wear that other outfit somewhere else. One of the best parts though was when I got to give @treyleveque his Give Us The Floor fan, bc I know he’ll rep it right.

Anyway, happy pride to everyone who cares about Queer youth as much as I know these lovely people do 🌈🌈🌈

PS - if you live in Austin and I did not tell you that I was coming into town and it’s because I literally did not have the time to see you but I love you taken in Austin, Texas Y'all by @styleethic
