Sophomore students in CMD-281 have begun typographic and letterform investigations, creating new shapes and forms from existing typography. The work exposes hidden details in fonts to build an understanding of differentiation, detail balance, and composition. The letterforms act as proxies for trademarks, icons, and symbols, letting designers test how much of a form can be omitted while still maintaining familiarity. These lessons build throughout the semester and across the curriculum, deepening an appreciation for why details matter and beginning a formal understanding of symbol development that will eventually become brand, packaging, editorial and experiential programs. by @su_commdesign

One of the people who has had the biggest influence on how I think about branding just released a book, and I couldn’t be more excited to read it. I’ve had the privilege of knowing @marcstress as a colleague, mentor, friend, and design partner over the years. His work has reinforced something I believe deeply: strong brands are built on strategy, not marketing. When the foundation is right, every decision that follows works harder and compounds for you over time—creating consistency, recognition, and reducing the need to constantly reinvent and use empty marketing tactics. If you’re an entrepreneur, business owner, or fellow brand designer, I’d highly recommend adding The Brand Operating System to your reading list. Congratulations, @_okmarc ! Excited to dive in. 👏 #branding #brandstrategy #thebrandoperatingsystem #okmarc #businessowners taken in Central New York by @su_commdesign
