Today we’re highlighting CMD Senior, Ryan Levkoff! Ryan spent the summer as a Brand Development Intern at Steve Madden 👠 “Hi! I’m Ryan Levkoff, a Communications Design Senior, and this summer I had the opportunity to intern at Steve Madden as a Brand Development Intern in NYC! Throughout the summer, I worked alongside the Brand Development team and gained hands-on experience in branding, marketing, trend research, strategy, and creative development. I was able to see how ideas move from initial research and concepts into real brand strategies, while collaborating with so many talented people across the company. My experience in Communications Design at Syracuse played a huge role in preparing me for this internship. CMD has taught me how to think beyond simply making something look good and instead consider the strategy, audience, story, and purpose behind an idea. Skills like concept development, branding, presenting, collaboration, taking feedback, and communicating an idea visually helped me throughout the entire summer. My advice to other CMD students looking for internships is to take advantage of every opportunity to make connections and never be afraid to share your ideas and reach out to people. Ask questions, volunteer to help, and get to know the people around you. You never know which project, conversation, or connection could lead to your next opportunity!”

Today we’re highlighting one of our very own CMD Seniors, Juliana McDonald! Here’s what she shared about her experience as an intern this summer at Bloomingdale’s: “Hi! I’m Juliana, a Communications Design senior and this summer I got the opportunity to be a design intern at Bloomingdale’s in NYC! My summer was full of fun, learning, and meeting super wonderful and talented people. I worked as a member of both the design team and the larger intern cohort, contributing to various digital design, marketing, UX/UI, and campaign design projects. Weekly, our intern groups participated in a sprint challenge in one day in which we would present to an executive at the end of the day. While at Bloomingdale’s, I constantly showcased a lot of skills I learned from Communications Design at Syracuse including brand strategy, design fundamentals, ideation, and collaboration. My experience in CMD really pushed my abilities during my internship and prepared me to not be just a good designer, but as a conceptual storyteller. My advice for future interns and CMD students looking for internships is to utilize your Syracuse network and showcase the skills you have as much as possible!”
