🌀Suboptimalskater will be taking a break for the month of June. The Brains Trust behind the concept, @cooperinho1 needs to read some books and watch the World Cup.

🌀There will be a few more bits and bobs over the weekend. This post is unashamedly after the views - with a tastefully taken shot by @soleanimals and an Oasis tune, to match the vibe.

🛹Learn how to griptape!
🛹Please send or share with anyone that you think may benefit from this guide!

🛹Here's some additional in info! Linked to slides.⬇️
1. What you need - griptape (obvs), skatetool, pokey thing, knife. Also you can use some cut off griptape to smooth edges of tape when it is on the board. (Step 6)
2. Remove trucks - important to do this before old griptape removal.
3. Remove griptape with hairdryer - heat a bit, then pull. Can be tricky, just keep going.
4. When old stuff is removed, give a quick clean, then line up new tape. Take backing off and place on deck. Smooth down so no bubbles.
5. Scrape edges with side of metal skatetool, or use a screwdriver. This makes it easier to cut.
6. Make sure area is safe and cut, away from body and cats! If under 18 or suboptimalskater ask a grown up to supervise. Smooth edges with spare tape
7. Make holes where the bolts (or screws as I have called them) go through with pokey thing.
8. Put trucks back on!

🗿@cooperinho1 and @thyme2skate set out to find the Marquis of Bute's monument in Cardiff in October '26, home to a centrally located DIY spot in the Welsh capitol.
🗿Using Google maps, in the best archaeological tradition they found it in about 10 minutes from where they parked.
🗿Sadly, not only did they forget their skateboards but also discovered that Callaghan Square is due to be built over with a spanking new Metro station.😭. Some Heras®️ fencing was already in place, but much remained skateable.
🗿They hope to return soon to document what is left.

🌀Calais Beach, France! A World class skatepark! Not far from the ferry/Le Shuttle!
🌀Here, at suboptimalskater we have loved this skatepark for a good few years now and always factor it in on our Euro travels. Great to pop to when coming in or out of France if you are from the UK. Below are the ratings!
......🇫🇷Obstacles - 8. A massive bowl, great street section and a fun snake flow area. Also great for just rolling around checking out the French news.
.......🥖Vibe - 7 always friendly and plenty of space. Can get busy ofcourse, watch out for peoples hats falling off - Mon chapeau!
.......🥐Parking - 10. Park right next to it for free!
.......🇫🇷Bogs - 5. There is one here, but it was out of order. Didn't fancy going in to a cafe and asking, personally.
........🍟Quality - 7. Pretty new and well maintained, no damage to be seen
........🧄Flow - 8. Excellent in the bowl of course and lovely big space for merde skaters like suboptimalskater to think they are better than they are.
.........🍷cleanliness - 7. Hardly anything to pick up.
...........🇫🇷Innovation - 9. A well designed skatepark with loads of interesting bits.
.........🧄grub - 4. Lots of cafes about, but probably more expensive than Lidls. Probably best to take own supplies. No water fountain either. TOTAL 65%! Which is very good!
