For the past 14 years, Artree has worked at the intersection of art, memory, and political urgency. Our practice has lived in art spaces, on the streets in the heat of protest, and within community gatherings to organize, resist, and imagine alternatives.

As part of the World Indigenous Youth Conference, we gathered and displayed the original banners, placards, and posters that have weathered years of protests, land rights movements, and collective action.

Recognizing that keeping history alive also means passing on its tools, we facilitated a hands-on political poster workshop during the conference. Drawing on more than a decade of street-based activism, we shared the rapid-response and tactical visual strategies we have developed through practice. Together with participants, we translated systemic critique into immediate visual language, reflecting that the tools of art-making are inseparable from the tools of collective struggle and liberation.

Collecting Koko Mehendo
Today we gathered Koko Mehendo — a sacred seed/flower that carries memory, protection and it is about reconnecting with ancestral knowledge and honoring the rhythms of nature.
In the Tamang community, Koko Mehendo holds cultural and spiritual importance. It is used in rituals, seasonal practices, it carries protective energy — keeping away negative forces and grounding the spirit. It is often present in ceremonies that mark transitions: birth, healing, and community gatherings.
For us, collecting Koko Mehendo is a collective act. We walk together, share stories, remember teachings, and pass knowledge to the younger generation. Each seed becomes more than material — it becomes archive, offering, and living heritage.

It is a direct attack on the constitutional right to freedom of expression. Erasing peaceful dissent is an attempt to silence voices. Art is not a crime—repression is.”
