Just As The Calendar Began To Say Summer

I went out of the schoolhouse fast
and through the gardens and to the woods,
and spent all summer forgetting what I’d been taught—

two times two, and diligence, and so forth,
how to be modest and useful, and how to succeed and so forth,
machines and oil and plastic and money and so forth.

By fall I had healed somewhat, but was summoned back
to the chalky rooms and the desk, to sit and remember

the way the river kept rolling its pebbles,
the way the wild wrens sang though they hadn’t a penny in the bank,
the way the flowers were dressed in nothing but light.

Newsletter out today on becoming a Kestrel; working with vision, dreams and imagination.

My cardboard costume from Halloween was fun to make (and wear) but the real magic was in the visualization of transformation and feeling that in my body. Shapeshifting magic.

Sending love!

Hopping on to this platform briefly to share an upcoming workshop I’ll be offering at @thepeoplesyogapdx on June 8th. I won’t be here long because this platform is too much for me.❤️❤️

We will work with practices that support opening and stabilizing the heart space, or Anahata Chakra.

This is a great practice for those interested in investigating blocks to compassion and connection in all one’s relationships, starting with their relationship to self. Also to deepening one’s capacity to be and stay open hearted in the face of conflict and difficulty. Basically, to live in the world.

We will be in movement and meditation and in dialogue.

All are welcome, I’d love to see you in person in all your messiness and realness❤️

A newsletter is out today on how liberation begins with love.

I’ve just returned from a few weeks abroad and I was unclear how I would handle my return to the United States.

It turns out that my work is the same today as it was 3 weeks ago. The work of liberation is ongoing.
There is no other option, so let’s support each other and keep going!!!

How to Be a Poet
BY WENDELL BERRY
(to remind myself)
i

Make a place to sit down.
Sit down. Be quiet.
You must depend upon
affection, reading, knowledge,
skill—more of each
than you have—inspiration,
work, growing older, patience,
for patience joins time
to eternity. Any readers
who like your poems,
doubt their judgment.

ii

Breathe with unconditional breath
the unconditioned air.
Shun electric wire.
Communicate slowly. Live
a three-dimensioned life;
stay away from screens.
Stay away from anything
that obscures the place it is in.
There are no unsacred places;
there are only sacred places
and desecrated places.

iii

Accept what comes from silence.
Make the best you can of it.
Of the little words that come
out of the silence, like prayers
prayed back to the one who prays,
make a poem that does not disturb
the silence from which it came. by @subtle_bodywork

Election Season is feeling like Rut Season.

A newsletter is out today on how what we fight against most fiercely comes to define who we are.
How battling with our ‘opposition’ causes us to get locked in with the very things we are opposed to.

A practice that develops our curiosity in ‘the other’ and that resists the urge to react to or change ‘the other’ is the path toward peace in this complicated world. Toward ease in our complicated bodies.

From the great Hafiz,

I have come into this world to see this:
the sword drop from men’s hands even at the height
of their arc of anger
because we have finally realized there is just one flesh to wound

Sending wishes for peace and light out to all of you and please vote!!! ❤️❤️ by @subtle_bodywork

Inspired by this universe, unwinding, and the wisdom of tapping into grief, a new newsletter is out today on how falling apart can catalyze change… physically, emotionally and spiritually.

We hold our shit together so much.

Let’s celebrate and support each other through our collapses…
Our deaths and our rebirths. by @subtle_bodywork

The thing about Authentic Movement, is not how it appears from the outside, but how it feels from the inside.
Where does the impulse to move come from in your own body?
What about the impulse for stillness?

in this practice, we look for the root, and we move from there. Dropping habituated behaviors and premeditated action.

in this practice we experience the profound art of witnessing and of being witnessed.

Join me the Saturday, April 6 at 2:30pm to explore Authentic Movement in community @thepeoplesyogapdx NE

Let Me Make This Perfectly Clear
By Gwendolyn MacEwen

Let me make this perfectly clear.
I have never written anything because it is a Poem.
This is a mistake you always make about me,
A dangerous mistake. I promise you
I am not writing this because it is a Poem.

You suspect this is a posture or an act
I am sorry to tell you it is not an act.

You actually think I care if this
Poem gets off the ground or not. Well
I don’t care if this poem gets off the ground or not
And neither should you.
All I have ever cared about
And all you should ever care about
Is what happens when you lift your eyes from this page.

Do not think for one minute it is the Poem that matters.
Is is not the Poem that matters.
You can shove the Poem.
What matters is what is out there in the large dark
and in the long light,
Breathing.

Newsletter out today on creative acts as love letters. Placing the ego out of the way to make room to give from the heart.
Many exciting upcoming events, and also yoga and bodywork✨ taken in Rome, Italy by @subtle_bodywork

A new newsletter is out on grief in my own body… maybe a different emotion felt in yours?
About how we might discover more about our emotions by not analyzing them or naming them… maybe just holding them lovingly and feeling them.
About how embodiment practices and bodywork can help us see into our inner beings, notice more, hold more, and let go of more.

We don’t liberate by looking too closely through one frame, or by looking away. We liberate by widening the aperture and taking in more, and more varied perspectives… holding ourselves (and each-other) more tenderly… and not too tight. by @subtle_bodywork

Yoga Foundations begins next Thursday evening…
Yes, we will discuss and dissect some foundational postures, or Asana.
We will also be sitting in a circle for five weeks, discussing some pretty foundational/existential ideas. We will discuss ethics. We will explore our breath, and how to use it as a tool for awareness building. We will build a meditation practice together.
Join me if this all builds curiosity in you🖤 taken in People's Yoga by @subtle_bodywork

I sometimes have an impulsive response to the sublimity of this earth… “we don’t deserve this magic”.

Unfortunately I see (belatedly in my life) that that mindset is thoroughly problematic.
We do deserve this beauty.
We were made of it, we were made for it.
We need it. We too are sublimely beautiful.

How do I behave differently when I walk through my days feeling that, knowing that. What action springs forth from my hands when I see them as extensions of an open and worthy heart.

Not feeling inadequate in any way.

This stone is my bones and a challis. Holding this perfect body. Reminding it that it is home.

This water sings to my rivers within.

An open invitation to be held in something far larger than the edges of my skin. by @subtle_bodywork
