We pulled at least 50 imaginary air horns and got plenty of honks in return. ♩¨̮(ง ˙˘˙ )ว♩¨̮ Bless the truck drivers who gave us space and waved us on. Along the way, we spotted so many signs reminding us we were exactly where we needed to be, at the right place and the right time.

The same friends,
the same island,
one purpose: to mend the damage
human greed has done to this sacred land.

Bahía Grande, a 6,500-acre tidal basin, was a haven for thousands of years until 1936, when completion of the Brownsville Ship Channel cut off the tides and left the Bahia barren for decades. Restoration began in 2005, and the work to heal this coastal refuge continues even now as Brownsville faces channel expansion, LNG development, proposed oil refineries, and as we learned today, continued border wall construction through our home. After a day’s work in the sun, it is clear that my love belongs to the community that keeps working to leave Pachamama greener than we found her. taken in Laguna Atascosa Bahia Grande Preservation by @suburbanocowboy

Being “in nature” is simply not enough,
we must learn every plant and animal by name.
Like how we remember the name of an old friend,
So we never forget who shares the world with us. taken in Paper Caper Co. by @suburbanocowboy

December 2025, as New Year’s Eve was approaching, Leo pulled up one night with a “Bike Law” notepad and pen in hand, asking what our goals were with @bikergv956 for 2026.

I only had a moment to think, but quickly listed what came to mind:

Collaborate with local organizations, help build accessible bike rides, host hands-on bike maintenance classes, but overall, just continue to ride our dang bikes.

Today marked the end of a five-day program hosted by www.ICanShine.org, where our youngest community members with disabilities learned to ride a conventional two-wheel bicycle. Javi and I were fortunate to be part of this, and as members of Pedaleo El Pueblo, we look forward to continuing this partnership with I Can Shine.

Watching these kids grow, break through barriers, and light up with the biggest smiles was incredibly rewarding to witness and be part of. Seeing them build confidence in their newly discovered abilities made it even more meaningful. I can’t wait to share more moments like today as we continue growing within our communities and empowering others to build that same confidence in their biking abilities.

Our growth may be slow, but these moments keep us moving forward. I’m so proud, and I carry so much love in my heart for this beautiful community on the frontera of the Río Bravo. taken in Rio Grande Valley, Texas by @suburbanocowboy
