Day 20 - 26 of our Zimbabwe Road Trip. After another day of rough roads from Chizarira to Hwange, we stayed overnight at Gwango Lodge for one night, just outside the National Park. Day 21 was a drive to Hwange town to take a fellow traveller to hospital for a lung X-ray, get some meds and a nebulising session. Then we entered Hwange National Park at Sinamatella gate and drove to Masuma Picnic Site to camp there for the night. The most beautiful area overlooking the Masuma Dam, which attracts all the game. The resident hippos and crocs give it the Africa feel and the elephants pass through regularly, as do the spotted hyenas, lions and general game. We headed out of there mid-morning the next day to drive all of 3 kms to Kapula and our exclusive luxury tented camp area for 3 nights. From there we went on game drives every day to different areas of the Park. Day 25 we exited Hwange and Zimbabwe and went into Botswana to spend a night at Woodlands Overnight Lodge. Day 26 we exited Botswana at the Stokpoort Border post. What an efficient process, through the Botswana and SA side in 12 mins and spent a few days in JHB before heading home to the Cape Winelands. We travelled over 7000 kms in a month. What an awesome African adventure. by @sueludolph

Day 11, 12 and 13 of our Zimbabwe road trip was all chilling and relaxing in Mana Pools on the Zambezi River at the most idyllic camp site for game viewing. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets, but most importantly elephant sightings and experiences that were lifers for us all. Abundant bird, hippo, eland, waterbuck sightings, amongst the general game. We were wild camping and it was wild! Most nights while we were sleeping hyenas, jackal, leopard, lions and elephants came walking through our trailers and cars 😳tomorrow we head to Kariba for a few days on a houseboat 😎 by @sueludolph

Day 9 and 10 of our Zimbabwe road trip. Left Masvingo after a rough start to the day for Jan, after he bashed the rim of his trailer tyre and unseated the tyre and had to change that. We drove close to Harare that day and stayed in Chinhoyi at Zebra’s Dazzle Motel. Excellent service, food and staff. Each room was individually decorated in the theme of an animal or bird. We left the next day for an unexpectedly loooong day on the road to cover a short distance. Shocking roads, lots of trucks and many police roadblocks. We finally got to Mana Pools to check into our private Mucheni camp site and had to set up camp. Luckily staying here for 4 nights overlooking the Zambezi River 😅 by @sueludolph

Day 5 of our Zimbabwe road trip on the 6th of September- Jan’s birthday. We woke up at the Lion and Elephant Motel and packed up in the rain again to get an early start on another long day of driving to Gonarezhou National Park. It took us an hour and a half, with some debates, detours and help from Starlink to find our exclusive and jaw-dropping campsite on the Runde riverbed, looking at Chilojo cliffs. by @sueludolph

Day 4 of our Zimbabwe road trip was all about getting through the border chaos and bureaucracy at Beit Bridge. SA side had very little parking, was grungy and had long queues. Zimbabwe side was cleaner more organised, but slow 😬 3 hours for both sides. Then we drove on to The Lion and Elephant Motel for a night of camping in the rain again 🙄 Fortunately they had a pub with a TV so we could watch the Bokke win 🏉 by @sueludolph

Day 3 of our Zimbabwe road trip. Left our campsite at Bundu River Lodge in the pouring rain. Camping is overrated in the rain 🌧️ Stopped in JHB to feed and hug our grand niece, Augusta Sue Austin 🥰 Met up with 3 of the couples joining us on our road adventure at Dinaledi Lodge in Dinokeng Game Reserve. Last overnight stop in SA before crossing the border. by @sueludolph

Day 2 of our Zimbabwe road trip was from Beaufort West to Bundu River Lodge outside Ventersburg. Karoo Padstal provided a much needed good coffee and tasty BLT roosterkoek on our 600 km journey. Bundu River Lodge on the Sandriver was our first night of camping. What a peaceful and scenic spot to camp and braai. by @sueludolph
