A couple of weeks ago, I headed to my summer home-away-from-home (aka Kingston ON) to shoot what may very well become the newest sailing event in the 2028 or 2032 Olympics: wing foil.

FoilKingston regatta hosted by KYC brought together wing foilers of all ages (14 to 50+ yrs old) as well as a handfull of foiling Waszp (@waszpcan). Organized by the foiling energizer bunny @sufraser11, @wecanfoil and @canadianfoilingcentre, with races orchestrated by race maestro @irenebikker.

While wind conditions were not optimal, I still managed to snap some shots of these guys (where are the gals?!?). The silent speed of these rigs, faster than the wind that powers them, is impressive. To shoot a 100+ wing foil rabbit start is definitely on my bucket list now.

Day 1 of the 2026 FoilKingston Regatta 🌊 @kingstonyachtclub

Day 1 proved challenging not only for the competitors, but for the @wecanfoil race organizers as well. The wind, weather, and wave conditions had more twists, turns, and surprises in a single hour than your favourite roller coaster.

Despite the ever-changing conditions, racers and organizers made the most of the day—getting familiar with the @x15class wingfoil equipment and successfully completing the opening race. 💪

The morning began with a review of the abbreviated starting sequence and race course layout, led by @canadianfoilingcentre @sufraser11, and Race Officer @irenebikker.

Following a few unscheduled and short lived warm-up sessions, competitors hit the water while the race committee kept a close eye on the action—from the comfort of semi-dry land! 😄

Here’s hoping Day 2 delivers on the forecast 🤞🌬️for the wings and @waszpcan
