Please join us on Friday, October 2, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM for the opening of Everything I can think of presented by Yair Sikorski and Connor Tharp.

What exists between two beings that can be only noticed when they are together? How does this intimate bond change the way we engage the world? Relationships with alive and non alive beings, expose us to what we are and what we are not. In
a dialectical way, we approach and allow ourselves to be surrounded. An endless cycle in which we give and receive, we move closer and apart. Life does not ask permission to be taken by it. It just happens; and sometimes it is not so
strange nor so uncomfortable to surrender to the otherness of another. To let ourselves be changed by what is not us. When this happens something begins to belong to both: a moment,
a gesture, a memory, a space that could not have existed otherwise.

Intimacy is a way of observing and creating at the same time. To look close enough that looking becomes a form of touch. To make room for another presence, and to discover that the space between two can itself become a place.

This exhibition was made together by two friends sharing themselves as artist, allowing each gesture to meet another. One mark responding to the next. A color opening the possibility of another. There is conversation here, but also listening. There is agreement, interruption, surprise and play. The painting becomes the record of a relationship, not an object, but a place where it could
happen.

Please join us for the opening reception of Tempo Giusto by Kato on Friday, September 18 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.

In Tempo Giusto, Kato’s work engages in immersive observation of the concept of space as both method and disruption. Painting allows her to stretch or compress moments in time. In some of Kato’s work, she utilizes segmentation and spatial dislocation in order to resist traditional composition while preserving the essence of a known place. This mirrors how we often experience the world: in fragments, through repeated glances where nothing is fully clear. Similarly, memory retains shards rather than complete images.

Kato’s recent work combines realism and abstraction. Symbolic elements appear as traces of nostalgia, pointing to psychological and unorganized yet harmonious experiences. Tempo Giusto seeks the precise rhythm in which a moment forms and dissolves.

Kato was born in Ridder, Kazakhstan, and lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for over two decades before relocating to Arkansas, United States, seven years ago. Initially trained in translation, she discovered that painting and museum work better aligned with her creative interests. Kato works primarily in oil, developing compositions that explore careful observation, memory, and the interplay between realism and abstraction.

We too have dreams brings together artwork created by Rohingya girls in refugee camps and local girls in NWA through storytelling workshops, alongside photographs taken during fieldwork. The exhibition centers the girls’ voices and aspirations while the photographs offer glimpses into everyday life in the camps. Together, the works form a dialogue between lived experiences and imagined future.

The Rohingya girls have dreams. They dream of becoming doctors, teachers, and pilots. Yet most of the girls will be forced to leave school around the age of 14 to help with household chores or to get married. These girls deserve the opportunity to dream. Hanna Ji’s research explores how designing participatory storytelling experiences might help foster a sense of agency and community while shifting perceptions of gender norms for early adolescent Rohingya girls living in refugee camps to expand educational access.

We too have dreams is an invitation to witness possibility. It invites viewers to listen, reflect, and imagine futures shaped by those whose voices are too often unheard.

We are excited to announce a new exhibition dropping this Friday, Feb 27th, Coming Home, a group exhibition celebrating Filipino culture. See you there!

Filipinos make up a large portion of the American population; however, much of the documented lineage and culture has concentrated in the Bay Area. Graphic designer Erika Fredricks and filmmaker/photographer Brianna DeLima Ifland have experienced similar journeys in their experience, reclaiming their heritage as mixed-Filipinos growing up in Arkansas.

As artists, they’ve done so by producing work inspired by said experience. From the daily routine, as seen in a connection through food in Fredrick’s risograph cookbook; to the seasonal, as explored in Ifland’s New Year’s ritual series and Fredrick’s Christmas parols (lanterns); and the once-in-a-lifetime, such as a photo series on a visit to the motherland.

The exhibition is a diaristic love letter to the culture, featuring photo and photogram series by Brianna DeLima Ifland and prints by Erika Fredricks with an accompanying documentary on the work by Marshall Deree.

Come for the opening, but don’t sleep on the closing reception and special printmaking and film program on March 14th! by @sugar__gallery
