So, a lot of people tell me they just “can’t wear” a bandana. To which I promptly say, “NOT ON MY WATCH!” Do you have a neck? A head? A wrist? Then you just haven’t figured out your bandana style yet.

Howdy, Sugars! I’m Val, and I am the maker and (mostly) one lady show behind @sugarcampshop. I’m from Dayton, OH and I create wearable art for people with something to say. Every one of my 100% cotton bandanas starts with a hand drawing, and are crafted through the lens of my Midwesternly gritty perspective. If you have a little edge to ya, and believe human rights should be afforded to all, we’re gonna be besties 🌈.

This will be my first ever visit to Bloomington, and I’m so proud that it will be for @bloomingtonhandmademarket! In these weird times of billionaires and bot farms, it’s more important than ever that we show up to these unique markets to support small businesses & the little weirdos. 👻

Here’s the deal, until men are actively working to hold other men accountable and doing away with toxic masculinity, then they are part of the problem. A problem that is damaging to not just women, but all genders.

After having to play whack-a-fool yesterday with a bunch of wild comments, I’m hoping this’ll be a boring little palate cleanser. My reel tipped into the manosphere somehow, with 70% of the viewership being male (it’s usually closer to 10%) and I spent all day witnessing why the bear is the better option.

So anyhoo! Orange! ‘Burnt Cheese Puff’ to be precise (iykyk, and if you don’t, see my ‘Art of the Subtle Troll’ post 👀). I love this deep warm orange bandana with a reddish brown ink. Makes it perfect for layering into your fall wardrobe.

My pettiness runs deep, Sugars. ✨
I just can’t get enough of the swampy mess of a reflecting pool! What better metaphor for the man who promised to “drain the swamp” than his total vanity backfiring and turning a perfectly fine vessel of water into an algae-filled disaster? It’s so deliciously funny that it doesn’t seem real.

I’m just a gal in Ohio making bandanas, screaming into the void that none of this is normal. So why the hell not make fun of it? Here’s my deeeep cut Swamp Curse bandana. Like an onion, there are layers:

🦠On first look, it’s a harmless paisley. An homage to the traditional bandana, really.
🦠Then you might notice that paisley is comprised of swamp bugs—beetles, cicadas, moths. But because I can’t stop there. I zoomed in on microscopic algae and stylized it to get the little paisley flourishes.
🦠And wait… is that a HEX? Sure is, Sug. It’s invoking an algal bloom…
🦠The colors are Swamp Scum🦠, Frog Green🐸, and… wait for it… Burnt Cheese Puff🧀!
🦠BUT THEN! You notice there’s a subtle reptilian face in that design. Yep, that was totes an accident at first. But I leaned in 🤣

So yeah. Sometimes laughter is the best medicine, or weapon—however you choose to sharpen it. I hope you get as much of a kick out of this inside joke, as I did.
