Grandma’s are so special.

Thank you @sumerwhattup for allowing me to meet your sweet grandma. Ms. Opal is 94 years old from the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. She lives in Denver with her pup Rosie and has 15 grandchildren. It was a joy to spend time with her in her beautiful home. 🦋 taken in Denver, Colorado by @sumerwhattup

Looking at this old picture of my grandmother’s garden now that I’ve started my own made me realize how talented and hardworking she was. Her and an ex-husband once built a tall waterfall complete with pond and fish in the northside of Denver. She grew vegetables, flowers, herbs, and truly whatever she felt like…while working two jobs! The biggest lesson I learned from her was a garden isn’t just for yourself, it’s for others as well. She grew strawberries for us kids to eat. Zucchini for the zucchini bread she baked and handed it out every season. Every party was in her garden and sometimes even weddings.

It’s a different time sadly. She’s 94 years old and her garden doesn’t look the same but I’ll always have appreciation for fun that was had and the lessons learned. by @sumerwhattup

Our garden has been the best reminder of how much can change over a couple years. How intention, care, labor, and love can shift reality.

Other than the wild roses we only focused on native to Colorado plants. We had our first hummingbird visitor, a baby bunny stops by often, robins feel safe enough to walk across the yard.

A space which has run over with foxtails, vines choking everything out and only home to grasshoppers is now coming into balance.

From bleak to blooming. A lesson. by @sumerwhattup

The beauty of living. The art, flowers, friends, and flow of life. I’ve had so many great meet ups with kin and we all seem to be shifting focus and responsibilities. Becoming more authentic in love and community. I believe the last slide to be true. It was/does look bleak at times but we never fold and I love that for us. by @sumerwhattup
