I’m so excited and honoured to finally share this project. This is something I’ve been working on since July!! Snapchats producers for the show “hashtag our stories” (@hashtagourstories) reached out asking me to speak about my story of domestic violence and being a survivor, which is something I’ve discussed previously on my page. I had a lot to say during my interview but obviously they can only share a few minutes. Some extra points to add:
* I went to domestic abuse therapy after, provided to me by Victim Services
* Know the different types and signs of abuse; psychological, emotional, physical, financial, sexual, etc.
* Abusers are really good at “making up” after with huge professions of love, gifts, even extravagant getaways. This is what makes these relationships hard to leave, because it’s not all “bad”. They’ll tell you they’re sorry, it’ll never happen again, it was a mistake …. That’s a lie.
* Abusive relationships don’t start off as abusive. They start normal and happy and flirty … it’s gradually over time that psychological abuse escalates. At first you make excuses for it because it’s “small” (like controlling what you wear).
* Psychological abuse is just as significant. I didn’t end up in hospital with visible physical wounds like broken bones, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t still wounds.
* Brene Brown BRAVING saved my life and future relationships
* Read the Boundaries books by Anne Catherine
* The pictures and videos depicted (aside from the picture on the day of the abuse) are all after the abuse. My ex was so controlling over what I could do, so after the relationship ended I did all the things I “wasn’t allowed to”. I went on my high school grad trip, I went to music festivals and concerts, I went for weekend getaways with friends, I traveled, partied, laughed, learned, and made new and healthier relationships

an intimate moment with my mom, wrapped in her veil 🥹🤍✨ there’s not enough attention to the mamas of the bride on the wedding day. So I wanted to make sure I had a few moments with her throughout the day. We had a momma-daughter dance too 💕

(Side note: mantilla veils seem to be the trend for 2026/2027!!) So my mom’s cathedral mantilla veil matching my dress AND being in style all these years later was a bonus and a sign ✨

POV finding out your wedding dress has pockets!!! 😱🤣

It’s one thing to say Yes to the dress…

It’s another thing entirely when you pick up YOUR dress🥹

Initially you said yes to the STORES dress, that’s been clipped and cinched to give you a bridal vision

But YOUR dress …🥹 it’s fitted to you, made for you, and fits like a glove

Something ultra special about this experience was after saying yes to the dress, my mom shared that her wedding dress was done by the exact same designer 🥹😭🤍✨ @maggiesotterodesigns @sotteroandmidgley

yes this is in fact THE soup recipe that I accidentally poisoned an entire fire station with (sorry Leduc @leducfirefighters4739 ) but if you make it this way I promise you won’t get sick 🥲

Peel and chop your butternut squash and roast in the oven with a drizzle of oil and s&p on 400 for about 45 mins. Meanwhile…

Chop garlic, onion, and jalapeno. You can also add red pepper here but I forgot. Heat some oil and a tbsp of butter in a medium to large sized pot

Hard sear your chicken on both sides and remove

Add in your onions and jalapeños and cook until onions are begging to look translucent. Then add in your garlic and sauté until aromatic

Next add in your cooked and roasted butternut squash and 3 cups of broth. I use chicken broth but you can use veggie as well

Blend.
Add 1 more cup of broth and stir. Now add your chicken back to the pot with the lid and bring to a simmer for about 25 mins or until the chicken is cooked

When the chicken is cooked, remove, shred, and add back to the pot

Now whatever you do…don’t place it in a crockpot on low setting on the counter all day because it will notttt get hot enough to cook off any bacteria that collected from sitting on the counter all day 🥲
