I’ve been in Scotland for less than 48hrs and I’m definitely in love!! Edinburgh is such a beautiful city, and everyone I’ve met so far has been lovely. Yesterday was a very lazy day with nothing planned, so I just walked around and did a bit of sightseeing in the afternoon. So far, the hills haven’t killed me yet, but I haven’t attempted any of the big ones yet, lmao. Today I went to Holyrood Palace and the King’s Gallery for a special exhibit on Georgian fashion. It was a great little display, and after much hemming and hawing, I bought the book of course! More pics to come in the stories!!

I may have gone a bit loco in the candy aisle at Tesco, lmao!! I’m brining candy home for all my friends though! Also, more books from museums, in true me fashion. I wasn’t able to see the Sargeant & Fashion exhibit at the Tate Britain yesterday because of time constraints, but the exhibit book is a great substitute in a pinch. I also found both of the Women’s Dress Patterns at the V&A shop, so those immediately went into my bag, lol. Someday, when I have a house with a bookcase, it will be overflowing with art and fashion books!

Hello Scotland!!!! I arrived safe and sound in Edinburgh and schlepped all the way to my flat in Grassmarket from the train station. Google straight up LIED to me, saying the route was “mostly flat”. My ass, Google!! Every single picture in this post was taken on my 1/2mi walk, in which I climbed up an unconscionable number of stairs lugging my 20kg suitcase. At least I got my steps in, lol! Yesterday was an absolutely exhausting day! I finally made it to London after 36hrs of travel, with one entire day of my trip wasted in Boston because of airplane technical difficulties. I just think the universe is convinced that I must depart the US at Logan airport every time I fly to London, lmao!! I checked into my hotel room, which is in the basement and feels like a closet that happens to have a bed in it (picture to come later), and then girded my loins for a trip to the British Museum. As I said in my story yesterday, I was fully ready to play “Is it stolen? Probably” all through the museum, but I gave up really fast. It’s all stolen except for the Anglo Saxon and Romans in Britain collections. The Sutton Hoo artifacts were truly beautifully displayed, and I thought it was funny looking at the jewelry displays and going “I have a reproduction of that ring from @armourandcastings!” 😆😆 I saw maaaany familiar rings, brooches, clasps, and belt fittings. I was also amazed at the delicacy of the Ancient Greek and Mesopotamian jewelry that was on display. It’s truly incredible work to make such thin, intricate designs without any of our fancy modern tools. As always, more pictures to come in the stories!! Now, I’m off to explore the @vamuseum today. Welp, apparently the universe thinks I’m not allowed to fly to London without stopping in Boston first. My DC->London flight was diverted for technical difficulties riiiiight before we crossed the Atlantic, so we turned our tired, unhappy asses back around to Boston. I guess I’m glad I planned my trip with the London days first, instead of Edinburgh, so I’m not missing anything I haven’t seen before? Bright side? Y’all. Y’aaaallllllll. Glue traps are awful!! Pasta was such a scaredy cat tonight because my neighbor came over for a minute that he hid under the couch until she left. I didn’t realize that my landlord had glue traps left out from before I moved in and Pasta got his tail stuck in one! It’s crunch time!!! I’m finally getting off my derrière and getting ready for the upcoming @burnleyandtrowbridge sack workshop next month. This is my (incomplete) list of tasks to accomplish before I trot over to Williamsburg for a weekend of sewing and fun. Luckily, past-me was kind and partially assembled my panniers, so that’s half done already. The hardest part will be picking my fabric. My last stop in Paris was the Cluny National Museum of the Middle Ages. The exhibits started out a bit slow, but the artifacts they have on display are truly gorgeous. The first few pics are statues/carvings from the original western facade of Notre Dame. The statue of Adam is apparently considered one of the most beautiful remaining examples of 13th century statuary! There was gold and ivory everywhere, and more saints than you could shake a stick at, lmao! I was most excited to see the Lady and the Unicorn tapestries and they were absolutely gorgeous. Today begins with a visit to the Musée d’Orsay, home of some of my favorite artists! I skipped all the modern stuff and went straight to the Impressionists, lol. Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Pizarro, and so many more. ❤️ Here is a selection of my favorite pieces.
