Forever, you said. (200 x 175cm oil on canvas 2025) by @sunnymakingart
I Hope You Always See Yourself the Way I See You (100x150 oil on canvas 2025) it doesn’t look like me, but it feels like me. after finishing this piece, I sat on the floor and cried for 20 minutes which is still something I need to figure out. The first actual self portrait, the first time I really wanted to see myself or reconstruct the way I see myself because I finally trusted someone when they said something good about me. There are a thousand words running through my mind, but I guess they’ll have to remain a secret because I don’t want to spoil the future. This isn’t about anyone’s ghost. It’s me, I’ve been the ghost of past in the present. I can’t look away from its hollowness, it’s hope and despair in one. (apologies for the really bad lighting then again I am impatient. posting it makes me feel like I’ve completed it. Declaration, I’d say.) by @sunnymakingart
Continuing with Kafka’s words. “You are full of cloudy subtleties I am willing to spend a lifetime figuring out.” Second re-use. by @sunnymakingart
I guess it might be time for a little update. After 28 years of navigating life with cerebral palsy, I finally decided to take medication and ask for help from a neurologist. For the past two years, a series of unfortunate events happened continuously in my life, which caused my mental health to decline and increased my muscle tension significantly, to the point that I cannot take care of myself in my daily life anymore. I really did try to use all the solutions I’ve learnt throughout the years that previously worked to get myself back on track, but a high percentage of adults with cerebral palsy report needing more assistance in their late twenties to early thirties. After feeling like I was running a care home for myself, which felt very degrading and losing my daily life routine, I decided to reach out to a neurologist and got prescribed baclofen. At the moment, we are still in the trial phase, trying to figure out the dosage and whether I need additional support alongside it. The goal is to reduce my muscle tension and help me return to my normal daily life: painting, cooking, showering, sleeping, eating, walking, going outside; basically living again. I have decided to move out of my studio after months of not going and pack everything into storage. It is one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make, but I genuinely cannot keep putting my body and mind through it. My physiotherapist told me that our brains are made to relax our muscles, but because of the disability I have, my brain has been constantly fighting against my muscles and my body instead. I think it’s time to rest and do a lot of forgiving. And when I finally recover from all of this, maybe I’ll write a book about it. I will eventually return to my studio. But I genuinely miss painting so much, and it makes me very sad that I have to put it aside for a while. Anyways, I’m mostly always at home now, just resting, so if any of you want to come over and hang out, I’ll be very glad to open my doors for you. by @sunnymakingart
@sunnymakingart The Gloaming Plane Curated by @joshuauvieghara @pigmentcascade Open Sat-Sun 12-6pm or by appointment. The show runs to 22.02.26 @terrace_gallery 4-17 Frederick Terrace, London E8 4EW The Gloaming Plane brings together artists in a group show, investigating the shifting thresholds between painting and drawing — sites where images remain in motion, resisting fixed definitions. “Gloaming,” with its evocation of dusk and perceptual in-betweenness, offers a metaphor for this transitional field: a plane where clarity dissolves into ambiguity and where the image’s formation is traced through adjustments, hesitations, and intensities. Each participant contributes one painting and one drawing connected not so much as study and outcome, but through an indirect or intuitive correspondence that opens another plane of meaning. The pairing is not a directive but a catalyst. It allows artists to expose what circulates between the disciplines — how drawing can reveal the image’s understructure or psychic charge, how painting can deepen or complicate that impulse, or how one work might quietly undermine the other. Often the relationship remains unresolved, revealing an image in transition, moving across a plane that is continually forming and reforming. Another crossroads: swallowing or spitting both acts of violence. But what if one must be done? They say, what about the children, yet we cannot even care for ourselves. Violence and anger have become the anchor of courage invasive, transferable, infectious. They blind us, blocking the path to the eternal hope we all pursue. I am no less the same. A little bit of tears says more than we ever intended to, and more than we have ever known. Mine, Disagreement 40x50cm Oil on Canvas 2026 Exhibiting at The @terrace_gallery from 5 - 22 of feb 2026 by @sunnymakingart
I spent a lot of time on trying to figure out when it's the best time to say goodbye, and obviously, no one could ever predict the end, not for life anyway. It's just a whole lot of preparations. I watched Titanic for the first time in years to find a certain kind of sadness, the kind of sadness that rooted in me, the kind of sadness that I just don't want to lose, and I rely on it. But I didn't cry. I think I got a little bit sour when Rose was looking for Jack and everywhere is filled with water, and she had to really work through it to find him. That was the first time that I watched Titanic and I didn't cry. So I chose this drawing as one of the work I'm going to present in the upcoming show to represent how I just am a little bit powerless at this point. I want to portray the feeling of not feeling anything and the feeling of how I resent the feeling of not feeling anything. Don't take me wrong here, because when I sit by myself late at night and my thoughts are going wild, I still catch a glimpse of that feeling. I don't know how to describe that feeling to other people. I don't think I even know what that feeling is to me, to be honest. That's where I'm at. I thought I was a little bit too lost to not feel it at all. And now I just... Accepted. I do miss it, but I don't wish it.I felt powerless, and that's way worse than what I feel now. I hope whoever gave me that feeling that I'm not feeling right now is feeling it with someone else. All that happened to me felt like someone else's memories now, and I used to hold so dearly to those things, and I relied on it. My life was relied upon those memories. Now that I look back, I cannot believe it was mine. So I sit here by myself, as always. Alone at last, as always. by @sunnymakingart
You are welcome to join us at the opening of ‘The Gloaming Plane’ @terrace_gallery_ on Thursday, the 5th of February, 6-8:30pm The Gloaming Plane brings together artists exploring the shifting space between painting and drawing — a zone where images remain in motion and resist fixed definition. “Gloaming,” with its evocation of dusk and perceptual in-betweenness, offers a metaphor for this transitional field. Each artist presents one painting and one drawing, connected not as study and outcome but through an indirect or intuitive relation that opens another register of meaning. Curated by Joshua Uvieghara through Pigment Cascade, an artist-led platform for practice-based enquiry, the exhibition foregrounds material thinking and interpretive openness. The pairing acts as a catalyst, allowing the image to circulate, resist closure, and remain in a state of becoming. Opening on Thursday 5th February 6-8:30pm the show will continue to run Sat-Sun 12-6pm or by appointment until 22.02.2026 Terrace Gallery 4-17 Frederick Terrace London E8 4EW Artists: Karolina Albricht @karolinaalbricht Nick Carrick @nicholascarrick Sunny Chengwei Geng @sunnymakingart Max Gimson @max_gimson Tabby Li @tabby_li_artist Hannah Luxton @hannahluxton_ Enzo Marra @enzomarraart Scott McCraken @scott_mccracken_ Christian Mieves @christian_mieves Daniella Norton @daniellanorton Paige Perkins @paigeperkins7 Toby Rainbird @toby.rainbird Rob Sosner robertsosner.com Dorry Spikes @dorryspikes Joshua Uvieghara @joshuauvieghara Henry Ward @henzward Terrace History In 2004 Artist @karl_bielik opened @terrace_gallery in Hackney, London. I still remember years ago when I first met @elspethkwriting—from talking about fictional memories to watching her put things in jelly. I knew then this was someone who understood a part of me I’ve always felt embarrassed about, but couldn’t help shouting to the world. Years later, she invited me to be part of this group show—and in some way, it reminded me how seen I felt back then. How hope crept in. How much less alone it feels when people just get you. I’m happy to be showing an old piece. My relationship with painting has changed recently, so it'll be nice to revisit. Isn’t it pretty to think so. Anyway—the show opens on the 22nd. Confession (oil on canvas 175x150cm 2025) by @sunnymakingart
After a very long time, I finally came up with a new idea for my next painting. Again, in my bathroom. Something about writing and drawing and sketching in such an intimate, private space really brings things out of me. It’s hard to find words for it. But now, I feel comfortable going into the studio again and facing that already planned canvas. I‘m going to ignore all the sketches I did before on the surface, ignore all the markings; just fill the space between myself and my sense of safety. by @sunnymakingart
