Suntup Editions is pleased to announce our limited edition of The Great God Pan and “The White People” by Arthur Machen.

This edition marks the first time The Great God Pan and “The White People” have been presented following a comparison with Machen’s surviving manuscripts. The texts were prepared by Henry Wessells, a longtime scholar of Arthur Machen whose work includes Arthur Machen: The Norman Hickman Collection, a descriptive catalogue of an important collection of Machen manuscripts. His examination of the original materials has allowed previously omitted text to be recovered and restored, offering readers a closer view of the works as Machen originally conceived them.

The edition features eight stone lithographs by Flora McLachlan, tipped in by hand, and new afterwords by Henry Wessells.

All copies are printed letterpress, and are signed by Flora McLachlan and Henry Wessells.

Selections from the Poems of William Morris, edited with an introduction by William S. Peterson

The edition is edited by William S. Peterson, whose scholarship has shaped both the modern understanding of William Morris and the study of fine printing and design. Designed by Jerry Kelly, the book is printed in two colors throughout by Juan Pascoe at Taller Martín Pescador in Tacámbaro, Mexico, using an Ostrander Seymour hand press on dampened Velké Losiny handmade paper, in keeping with Morris’s own principles of craftsmanship and production. The text is handset in hot-metal Monotype Poliphilus and Blado, cast by Bradley Hutchinson at his foundry in Austin, Texas, with display type set in foundry-cast Gilgengart.
The frontispiece portrait of William Morris was drawn by Hermann Zapf and engraved by hand in lead in 1948 by August Rosenberger, Zapf’s longtime collaborator, and is printed from the original metal electrotype plate used in 1949. A previously unpublished pencil drawing of Morris by Dante Gabriel Rossetti is reproduced courtesy of the Mark Samuels Lasner Collection, University of Delaware Library.
Published under the Suntup Press imprint in an edition of one hundred seventeen copies, fourteen of which are hors commerce. The edition measures 7¼ × 11 inches and is press-numbered and signed by William S. Peterson and Juan Pascoe.

The Numbered edition of CHILD OF GOD by Cormac McCarthy is now available for pre-order at the LINK IN OUR BIO. Featuring twelve woodcuts by Barry Moser and a new afterword by John Banville, the edition is printed letterpress and is signed by Barry Moser and John Banville.

NUMBERED EDITION
For the Numbered state, the boards are covered in a handmade batik paper from India, made from recycled cotton rag. Each sheet is coated in wax, crumpled by hand, and dipped in dye, leaving a network of crackled veins with no two sheets being the same. Limited to two hundred fifty copies, the binding is quarter goatskin, with a detail from one of Barry Moser’s woodcuts letterpress-printed on the front board. The spine is foil-blocked. Endpapers are black Hahnemühle Bugra and the endbands are handmade in leather. The edition is housed in a clamshell enclosure covered in Natuurlinnen, a woven cotton cloth. A harrowing descent into isolation, violence and the darkest reaches of human nature, Child of God is one of Cormac McCarthy’s most inimitably disturbing works, and an early expression of the uncompromising vision that would come to define one of America’s greatest writers.

The edition features twelve woodcuts by Barry Moser, as well as a new afterword by John Banville. All copies are printed letterpress.

ARTIST EDITION
For the Artist state, the boards are covered in Bhutanese Tsasho — a paper made by hand in Bhutan from the bark of de-nar, a hardy plant native to the Himalayan foothills. Each sheet is pulled on a split-bamboo screen, leaving a faint laid pattern, then dried against a mud wall. Coarse, fibrous, and unevenly toned — at home in the stark landscape of the novel.

Limited to seven hundred fifty copies, the binding is quarter cloth, with a detail from one of Barry Moser’s woodcuts foil-blocked on the front board.
