Selections from the Poems of William Morris, edited with an introduction by William S. Peterson

The edition is edited by William S. Peterson, whose scholarship has shaped both the modern understanding of William Morris and the study of fine printing and design. Designed by Jerry Kelly, the book is printed in two colors throughout by Juan Pascoe at Taller Martín Pescador in Tacámbaro, Mexico, using an Ostrander Seymour hand press on dampened Velké Losiny handmade paper, in keeping with Morris’s own principles of craftsmanship and production. The text is handset in hot-metal Monotype Poliphilus and Blado, cast by Bradley Hutchinson at his foundry in Austin, Texas, with display type set in foundry-cast Gilgengart.
The frontispiece portrait of William Morris was drawn by Hermann Zapf and engraved by hand in lead in 1948 by August Rosenberger, Zapf’s longtime collaborator, and is printed from the original metal electrotype plate used in 1949. A previously unpublished pencil drawing of Morris by Dante Gabriel Rossetti is reproduced courtesy of the Mark Samuels Lasner Collection, University of Delaware Library.
Published under the Suntup Press imprint in an edition of one hundred seventeen copies, fourteen of which are hors commerce. The edition measures 7¼ × 11 inches and is press-numbered and signed by William S. Peterson and Juan Pascoe.

Today's Spooky Season post is dedicated to @aniaahlborn, an author that's very special to me because after many years, her books got me back into reading horror 🩷. This was after I graduated grad school and had started my career - I was (no offense) sick of seeing the same horror authors being promoted and talked about, and then I found Ania, in a genre that had still been dominated by older white men. Her books were a breath of fresh air (even though they are all very bleak).

Ania has such an extensive and fantastic backlog - which of her books is your favorite?

My first book was The Bird Eater. I think it was free on Kindle as a promotion - I was hooked and disturbed. I was immediately obsessed. According to my Goodreads records, I originally read this one back in 2014 😅.

#bookstagram #bookrecommendations #spookyreads #horror

I don't know why, but The Shuddering is just my absolute favorite. I've reread most of Ania's books a few times over the past decade, but this is the one I just always feel the urge to read as soon as fall ends and winter begins. I'll likely read it again in a couple months, I just find this one so creepy. It reminds me of all the B-horror monster movies I loved growing up.

#bookstagram #bookrecommendations #spookyreads #horror

My most recently read book of Ania's is her latest one, The Unseen. Loved it. Just like I loved the others. This had more of an uncanny, science fictiony vibe that felt refreshing and vastly different from her previous novels.

#bookstagram #bookrecommendations #spookyreads #horror

For some reason, I've never gotten around to reading Good and Joyful Things yet. I'm hoping to read it before the end of the year.

In the past, I've also purchased some *fairly* expensive special editions, which are my pride and joy. These aren't subscription box specials editions, they are actually super fancy and have limited numbers that had been printed.

This was a fun and challenging recent project, a new remarque inside the book “Let the Right One In”. Grateful to have worked with @suntupeditions on this project back in 2019.

The numbered limited Suntup edition of Animal Farm by George Orwell. This is my first book from @suntupeditions and I’m an instant fan of this publisher. I personally like Animal Farm over 1984, a political satire disguised as an animal fairy tale, entertaining and enlightening!

I recently illustrated The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, 12 artworks in total, and this is one of my favourite passages: the fig tree. Plath uses the tree as a metaphor for all the different lives Esther imagines stretching out in front of her, each fig representing a different possibility. Here’s my interpretation of the passage, alongside Plath’s words. It feels a little strange hearing my own voice back, but I think the reading gives the artwork a little more context.
