MY THIEVES’ CODE - Maarten Inghels

Since 2024, visual artist and writer Maarten Inghels has been applying his own sign system to the pavements of the cities he visits. For each front door, he carefully chooses a symbol based on what he can discover about the resident through the window or the mailbox. Does someone own a lot of books? Is there a cat in the window? Can he hear a dog? Do the posters in the window reveal something about political preferences? Does the resident have a security camera? A garden or a swimming pool?

With this intervention in public space, Inghels investigates and documents the stigmatizing term “thieves’ code”. At the same time, he attempts to make the intimate public. To an outsider, the signs are enigmatic, but with the accompanying legend, the street becomes legible in a different way. The work invites reflection on fears related to migration and the pressure on our privacy.

Visit the exhibition Dievencode (Thieves’ Code) at M HKA in Antwerp, on until October 25, 2026. Co-financed by the European Union, the Flemish government, and the Province of East Flanders within the LEADER rural development programme.

US BY NIGHT - Sebastián Curi

First presented at @usbynightfest , the remaining prints have now found their way online!

Two hands, held together as if in prayer, ask to be carried in your memory, alongside all the other images you already hold. Made with gratitude to the Us By Night community, where that big, ongoing conversation of making and sharing comes alive, so the thought can pass from one person to the next, one drawing at a time.

Sebastián Curi (b. 1986) is a Latin American artist and illustrator originally from Argentina, now based in Barcelona. He’s known for his bold, colourful, and playful visual style, often featuring exaggerated human figures and hand gestures with thick outlines and vibrant palettes.

The print debuted at Us By Night 2026 in Antwerp (September 24–26), where copies were printed live each evening on Superdruk’s Korrex Frankfurt proofing press. Additionally, Sebastián took the Stadium Stage as a speaker on Friday the 25th.

Tijdens workshops met scholen in het atelier, gebruik ik altijd kartonvellen als legger rond de cylinder. Er gaat altijd wel iets mis, en zo kan ik deze achteraf eenvoudig vervangen zonder teveel werk en kosten.

Op het eind van de dag is die kartonnen legger een werk op zich: een toevallige, collectieve print. Ik bewaar ze allemaal, en wie weet belanden ze ooit allemaal op een expo.

We’re very happy to add @sebacuri to this year’s line-up.

Originally from Argentina and now based in Barcelona, Seba has built one of those visual languages you recognize instantly: bold colours, exaggerated figures, giant hands, thick outlines and a whole lot of personality.

Starting out in animation before moving into illustration and fine art, his work now moves freely between murals, posters, fashion, editorial, branding and gallery walls — with collaborations for Apple, Nike, The New York Times and many more along the way.

And he’s not just coming to talk. 👀

I’ll just drop this here…

I moved the big Korrex Frankfurt to the creative madhouse @usbynightfest .
7 hours of printing a day, visitors could pick their type and print some posters, in overlapping timeslots of 20 minutes.

Finally made scans and an animation of some results of the Heidelberg print project at @usbynightfest

PRESS PLAY

At the creative festival Us by Night, I brought an analog Heidelberg platen press onto the festival floor, a machine weighing over a ton, originally designed for high-volume letterpress printing. In stark contrast to the festival’s predominantly digital atmosphere, this vintage press became the beating heart of an interactive, analog graphic installation.

Visitors were invited to create their own typographic and illustrative compositions using 3D-printed blocks within a fixed grid. Each day, a different ink color (red, light blue, pink) was used, allowing participants to build up layered designs over the course of the festival. The press became more than just a tool; it evolved into a vibrant centerpiece that sparked curiosity and encouraged participation. Multiple prints were made of each design. Some were taken home by the creators, while others were added to an ever-growing public display wall. This wall acted as a physical database, offering inspiration and a canvas for new contributors. The result was a collective visual language composed of over a thousand unique prints - born from collaboration, coincidence, and reuse.

The project demonstrates how traditional craftsmanship can take on new meaning in a digital design context. The physical presence of the press within the festival space fostered a dialogue between old and new: tactile techniques versus digital image culture, slowness versus speed, physical interaction versus virtual interfaces.

It also deconstructed the conventional design process. The final outcome was no longer the work of a single designer, but emerged through shared authorship.
The modular blocks served as an intuitive visual language that allowed participants to experiment with form, rhythm, and space. The visibility and reuse of previous designs created an open, iterative system of visual feedback. Designing became a collective act.
