PSA we’re bringing supper clubs back!!!

For those who’ve been around a while, you might remember that Supper Hour began with small supper clubs — a handful of strangers around the table, sharing a meal in our home, and seeing where the night went.

Over the past year we’ve spent a lot of time hosting pop-ups in different spaces. It’s been exciting in its own way, but somewhere along the line we realised how much we missed that simple energy of people meeting people over dinner.

Those early tables were a biggg part of our why, so this year we’re bringing them back, intentionally weaving quarterly supper clubs into our events calendar.

The first one will take place on 29 March at @duabakehouse! Seats will be limited to keep the room intimate; expect a shared table, passing plates, and maybe a conversation with someone you’ve just met.

Made a shaggy looking cake the other day (she needs some work I know lol, also made a bit of a mess in the process) — but hey, it was still really yum so it’s earned its place on the grid 🥥🍓🍰✨

Inspired by @a.goodtable’s take on @zaynab_issa’s coconut cardamom cake, with coconut buttercream, chantilly & strawberry rhubarb compote. The base cake is delicious and I’d happily eat it on its own, but yes — would totally make this again. Next time, single layer with just the chantilly and compote (don’t @ me, just generally not a buttercream gal)

Also totally dismissed how freezing my kitchen was before tackling said buttercream, iykyk by @supperhour

Feel like we’ve been suffering from a lil bit of event fatigue lately, but we’re back babyyy — and it feels so good to be doing fun things in the kitchen again!

Southern hemisphere, it’s FINALLY our turn to make corn-flavoured sweet treats. First order of business: sweet corn ice cream with a corn butterscotch swirled through it. Corn ripple ice cream!

A devout McDonald’s pie lover makes her own hand pies — a very natural progression 🍓

Strawberry & rhubarb, cardamom custard. Still a work in progress, which is a convenient excuse to keep making them! Currently fighting undercooked pastry and shells unsealing themselves mid-fry AHH (but we persist) taken in Melbourne, Australia by @supperhour

Finally felt brave enough to give biryani a go at home (for the first time) with @saadi.melbourne’s masala mix 🌼

Highly recommend walking from one 小籠包/xiao long bao stop to the next with friends, when in Taipei! One of my favourite activities of the trip, easily.

Our route was Sheng Yuan, Hang Zhou, then Din Tai Fung at Xinsheng — which ended up being the group favourite and, naturally, the one we forgot to film 🫪
