September Best Bites 🍜🍸

Wrapping up the month of September with memorable eats, drinks and treats as we head into spooky season.

For those who care, my 150+ spots on my Melbourne food list has grown to 180+ 🤪

Some remarkable bites and fun social aspects to these eats so less talking and let’s dig in 👉🏼

#melbourne #melbournefoodblogger #melbournefood #melbournefoodie #melbournefoodscene

@mile_end_bagels - crispy exterior with soft and chewy bites, their wood fired bagels are 🔥 paired with generous fillings (proof above 👆🏼) their fit out is very chic and it’s giving NYC bagel shop vibes 🥯

@soi38 - dined previously for dinner so back for their lunch menu and honestly it SLAPS hard. This Sukhothai noodle dish has the perfect balance of umami, spice, sour and sweetness in one bowl. Perfect for a quick lunch in the CBD 🍜🇹🇭

@katsuretsuco - from the team behind Ton & Co. they’re serving up some of the best pork katsu I’ve had in awhile. Every bite was crispy and juicy while their housemade sauce pairings just complemented the dish 🍖🍚 they run a tight ship so the queue is well worth the wait imo.

@panaderia.serai - surprised they are back?! Well their ukoy (prawn) sando is the most generous prawn patty I’ve ever had. Crispy, juicy paired with tangy sauce - it was 🤯 and I don’t normally like banana drinks but their Turon iced latte has converted me 🍌 oh they do breakfast now btw 👀

@norathai_melb - this is a sleeper hit. A small restaurant fit out in basically a living room, they currently have my fav Thai restaurant pick. GET THE FRIED CHICKEN (iykyk) 🍗 and I’ll be back for their Bai Leang Pad Kai 🫡

@iristhebakery - what’s not to love about them? The Scandinavian vibes, baked goods, their flavours 👏🏼👏🏼 their bergamot brioche has my winner. Sugary crust, soft buttery brioche perfectly paired with tangy and bitter bergamot curd - it’s perfection ✨

@garammericamelbourne - super grateful to attend their 20th anniversary and I was overwhelmed by their generosity and flavours (40+ dishes). From variations of rendang, different cooks of meat and spices - all I can say is they have placed nasi bungkus on the map here in Melbourne 🍛🌶️

MADE IN KIN AT THE LOBBY

Fresh off the plane from Manila, playing catch up with sleep and acclimatising to our Winter. I have never been happier to do a Melbourne pit stop before heading home, because it meant I could be with kin and community.

As a creative studio and cultural platform, MADE IN KIN champions people of colour shaped by migration.

Building community up and facilitating spaces for, and with other creatives of colour is no easy feat. Maraming salamat Ate Pauline for this initiative, I'm so incredibly proud of what you've started.

It was such a sweet, wholesome event and was so so happy to reconnect with my Ates of @entree.pinays - who have supported me from the very beginning.

Ate Grace facilitated the panel (which she was of course amazing at, go and book her NOW!) and ugh her brain, her humour, her essence – just love her.

I can't wait for the next one!

“There is a particular comfort that comes from being in a space where you don’t have to explain yourself before introducing yourself.

Nobody was performing. Nobody was code-switching. Nobody was trying to convince anyone they belonged. They already knew they did.”

Written by our founder @paulinemorrissey, our latest Diaspora Diary reflects on our event, Meet MADE IN KIN In The Lobby, where almost 100 people of colour gathered at @ellisonstudios for an evening of community, creativity and conversation.

Choosing photos from @carlinandcamera was nearly impossible. Every image captured the warmth, joy and energy of the @madein_kin evening so beautifully.

Beyond the beautiful faces and moments was something even more special, a celebration of culture, creativity, diversity and community. A room full of people connected by stories, shared experiences and a genuine sense of belonging.

So proud of @paulinemorrissey and the space she’s creating through MADE IN KIN. This is only the beginning, and I have a feeling the journey ahead is going to be something truly special. 🤎

Some rooms just feel different.

A room full of people of colour creating, building, leading and backing each other. No competition, no gatekeeping, just connection, conversation and the kind of energy that reminds you what’s possible when community comes first.

Massive thanks to @paulinemorrissey for bringing us all together through @madein_kin . Platforms like this matter because representation isn’t just about being seen, it’s about creating spaces where people can belong, collaborate and dream bigger together.

Walking away inspired by the talent in this room and feeling pretty certain we’re all about to do some incredible things.

Thank you to @ellisonstudios for opening the doors to The Lobby and creating such a beautiful space for us to gather, and to @carlinandcamera for capturing it all so perfectly.

The future is looking very bright.
