In case you missed our FULL HOUSE chapter meeting this month at @patagoniasf (🙏) about federal threats to the ocean, the main takeaway was that community matters!

So does signing @surfrider action alerts, and staying engaged. And guess what? You’ve got a chance to hop on board with all these good ideas again next month when we gather to talk about dune restoration work at ocean beach at our chapter meeting on October 7.

Thanks so much to @newarafaltas_ Matt Koller @ali_rubin and @lauraawa for keeping us ready to make our voices heard for the ocean 😤

Climate Action in California 👏

From October 2–11, Surfrider is celebrating our inaugural Climate Week, bringing communities together to explore how we can take action for our coasts and climate.

Through the Climate Action Program, chapters across the Golden State have:
💪 Engaged 2,000 volunteers
🌱 Installed 2,200 native plants
🗑 Removed 42,800 lbs of invasive plants

But there's more work to be done!

Roll up your sleeves and join a climate week restoration event, and attend Surfrider's webinar on Monday, October 5 at pm PST to learn more about coastal projects where Surfrider and local communities are restoring beaches and building resilience to climate change.

10/1 Update: Governor Newsom signed 3 (AB 1448, AB 762, & SB 1268) and vetoed 1 (AB 2253) of the remaining four bills. Thank you to everyone who took action to get those bills across the finish line.

•••
🚨 TAKE ACTION! Tell Governor Newsom: Sign Bills to Protect the Coast!

Eight of Surfrider California’s priority bills have made it through both chambers and landed on the Governor’s desk. Governor Newsom has signed three (yay!) and vetoed one (boo!), leaving four bills still awaiting action.

The Legislature did its part. Now it’s time for the Governor to act.

The remaining bills would:
🛢️help prevent new offshore oil drilling
 🚬 reduce disposable vape pollution
♻️ improve recycling labels
🏕️ & promote equitable outdoor access

Tell Governor Newsom to sign these bills into law and protect our coasts and oceans! Take action now - link in bio. by @surfridersf

We gathered at Sunset Dunes to celebrate Plover Appreciation Day and admire the plovers at Ocean Beach.

We were delighted to see the new interpretive signage at Judah, with lots of helpful information on our dune ecosystem, our plover neighbors and ways to share the park and beach to protect these special places.

Thanks to the phenomenally talented illustrators who worked on the plover cartoon sign (@abrawnart and @marielart18 ) and the maps sign (@kellly.gif ). Check out their websites: kellyyong.com adrianbrawn.com marieldelajarasmith.com

Thanks to @sunsetdunespark for supporting this project and @surfridersf for creating the dune signage!
Thanks to John Lindsey @thegreathighway for printing & installing signs.
Thanks to Martha Abbene for sign design.

And thanks to everyone who joined us for Plover Appreciation Day! by @surfridersf
