Another highlight of my final year: Thesis Presentations: A Night of 7 Original Works!!! Perhaps the most terrifying and rewarding experience ever! It was my first time writing/performing a solo piece and I couldn’t have done it without the guidance of Danielle Mages Amato who led us on this wild endeavor, the love and support of my fellow cohort, and my advisor Emmelyn Thayer! ❤️ I will forever remember this night!!! So proud of 38!!! 🙌 This challenged me in so many ways I am so grateful…stay tuned as I’m inspired to further develop my piece Kai Bai Bo 가위바위보! Susane Lee (she/her) @susanelee AEA | SAG-AFTRA Susane Lee is a Korean-American actor born in NY, raised in TX, and has spent most of her adult life in LA. Before earning her M.F.A. from The Old Globe/USD Shiley Graduate Theatre Program, she received her B.S. in Psychology and Minor in Theatre from Duke University. Film/TV: Behemoth!, “Madam Secretary,” “The Mindy Project,” “Snowfall,” “Rizzoli & Isles,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Gilmore Girls.” susaneLand, a dark comedy series she wrote and starred in, premiered at Sundance. Favorite roles at The Old Globe include Helen of Troy in Tiger at the Gates, understudying and performing Kisa in the world premiere of Keiko Green’s Empty Ride, and directing the student-led production of Hansol Jung’s Wolf Play. I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice-cream dance parties in LONDON!!! 🍦💃🏻 Schedule has finally let up so it’s time to play catch up! One of the highlights of the @globeusdmfa program is a trip to London! So grateful for this awesome experience with Group 38 + Ray Chambers! THANK YOU!!!❤️🙏❤️ Flew in earlier to soak up more theater and explore the city plus an excursion off to Stratford Upon Avon to see Shakespeare’s birthplace! Caught up with my dear friend Havvy - my first friend/roomie in LA ❤️😭❤️ Just like old times! Went crazy thrifting - got Docs for £5!!!! Plus jackets galore!!! (for NY of course😜), found some great eats - Jamaican patties my fav and oh Dishoom!!! 😋 Saw 12 shows in a span of 12 Days!!! PURE JOY!!! London Theatre 🎭 is NEXT LEVEL!!! Powerful, daring and so bold andddd reasonably priced! Only splurge was Ivo van Hove’s All My Sons with Bryan Cranston - worth it!!!! Also, no matter the show HOUSES WERE FULL!!! 🙌 Side note - I saw Clive Owen in London in a play eons ago when I was wondering if I could even pursue acting as a profession and that London trip was what made me come back and tell my parents - I’m going to be an actor not a doctor 💕Full circle to catch him doing another play in London on this trip when I’m about to launch out of grad school with my MFA in acting!!! 🎭 Who knows but I feel like Clive Owen and I will have to work on something together to bring it all home 😜🤞 Midsummer was dark and dreamy my favvvv, All My Sons - oof powerful performances 💔, the closing night of Importance of Being Earnest was just ELECTRIC, Coven - a must see musical that had me balling 😭… soooo many great shows…all in all theatre here is BLISS!!! So honored and grateful to be given the opportunity to lead the 2025 student led production!!! I proposed Hansol Jung’s Wolf Play because it spoke to me so deeply about identity, race, the need for belonging and what “family” means today. A haunting memory play that reverberates the impact of childhood trauma and ultimately celebrates the resiliency of the human spirit!!! We launched into rehearsals two days after we closed Titus 😱My cast and crew could have said no and opt for their nights free (so rare!) but said YES to this journey and its fast and furious schedule!!! 2 weeks of rehearsals, a week break for Thanksgiving, and coming back to a few days of tech before we open 12/5-12/7!!! I am so in awe of everyone’s heart work!!! 🙏 This is my first time directing a production and I am learning so much from this process, thinking of elements I rarely consider: how do I also tell this story through sound, props, stage design etc!
