POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The suspect is an adult female. Brown wings, red highlights. She’s about one inch long, armed with up to 100 eggs, incredibly dangerous to the local tree canopy, and considered a flight risk.

The spotted lanternfly, Lycorma Delicatula (insecticus invasivus, Looney Tunes style), is rapidly making its way through Massachusetts. The number of cities and towns with confirmed sightings has tripled over the past year, now affecting nearly 150 municipalities across the state.

I had the pleasure of covering this story with @itemlive reporter @erinhickey_ who worked incredibly hard to get this story out. I’ve never seen anyone become an expert on a subject so quickly (those are her words above). It was a fascinating story to cover and I had a lot of fun working on the design for the front page. Shoutout to designer Trevor Andreozzi for the awesome photo play on the jump.

More than a dozen kitesurfers took to the water (and air) off of Nahant Beach Wednesday morning to take advantage of the strong winds sweeping across the North Shore. Wednesday’s gusts offered a preview to the expected nor’easter that will hit the region Friday, bringing rain, wind, and coastal flooding through the weekend.
