AFTER THE BALL | The beauty of lingering ✨

Because sometimes the best part of the evening is refusing to let it end.

This series came from that familiar feeling after a great night out, when the music has stopped, everyone has gone home but you’re not quite ready to let go of the moment. Your makeup still looks good, there’s a little sparkle left and you’re soaking in those last few moments before reality kicks back in.

Visually, we wanted everything to feel connected and effortless. Rather than creating strong contrast, we embraced soft tones, shimmer, movement, texture, and muted greys that melt into one another, creating a dreamy, almost nostalgic atmosphere.

And the ethereal mood of this series? Entirely courtesy of the Ash Grey Fabric Backdrop from @studiobackdrops.

Dear love, I am here

I came across an illustration by Steffi a while back, and I genuinely couldn’t stop thinking about it for days. There was something about this woman you never fully see that stayed with me so deeply. I kept going back to the artwork, trying to understand why it felt so familiar and distant at the same time.

I don’t know if this is exactly what Steffi intended while creating her but this series slowly became my own interpretation of that feeling. Not a recreation but me trying to hold onto the emotion the artwork left behind in me.

" I first understood the importance of a good backdrop while attending a fine art photography workshop. The images I created there eventually became part of exhibitions, and that experience made me realize how much a backdrop can influence the mood and storytelling of an image.

As I started building my own setup, I wanted a fabric backdrop because it was practical to store and work with. I also knew I wanted something that looked artistic rather than just plain. While searching, Studio Backdrops kept appearing on my feed, and I loved that their backdrops were hand-painted and full of character. I bought my first backdrop from them, and not long after, they reached out to collaborate.

It felt like the perfect fit. The moment they got in touch, I already knew the kind of images I wanted to create and which backdrop would bring those ideas to life. Today, Studio Backdrops has become an important part of my creative process. Their backdrops don’t just sit behind my subjects.. they help shape the mood, the story, and the final image."

My third publication in @photovogue!

This one is so special because I finally got to work with the incredibly talented @smithaambu someone I’ve been dying to collaborate with. Smitha, I can’t thank you enough for making that 12-hour journey to reach me. It still blows my mind that all it took was one phone call. Your energy is absolutely infectious, and because of you, we pulled off this entire shoot in just 5 hours – from location scouting (google search and a lot of YouTube) to mood boarding, and even piecing together an outfit.

Sayujya, ( @yarn.culture ) as always, you came through with the perfect drape. This mustard sari you suggested for Smitha? Absolute perfection. She looked stunning!

And let’s not forget our flower queen, Titiksha, ( @titikshasar ) who completed the set with her signature touch – marigolds, and lots of them.

I also have to thank my husband for quietly holding it all together in the background – your support means everything.

But honestly, the biggest thanks goes to the universe for sending me my little stardust – my daughter. She’s my rock, my teammate, and my biggest cheerleader. From planning and packing to tackling that crazy trek to the location, she’s always there, making it all possible. No words can express how blessed I feel to have her by my side.

"I’m Gowri Nair, a photographer and creative director based in Kochi. I started my journey as a dance photographer about three years ago. Over time, I found myself becoming more interested in fine art photography, conceptual work, and portraits. I love taking ideas that exist only in my mind and bringing them to life through photographs. That’s the part of photography I enjoy the most.

If you look closely at my work, you’ll often notice a subtle feminist perspective. I feel women have so many stories, emotions, and experiences that aren’t always expressed or seen.
