Nick successfully launched and landed our drone to get these shots today!! Seems like the wind picked up enough to sail only long enough for us to get some photos! Thanks Mother Nature for helping us out! by @svghostlight

Ghostlight

A ghostlight is a single bare lightbulb left burning on an empty theatre stage. Both practical and symbolic, it prevents accidents in the dark while inspiring superstition that it welcomes friendly spirits - or keeps mischievous ones at bay - until the stage lights come back on.

Since we got back to Ghostlight last July we have sailed to 15 countries, slept in 60 places, traveled 4,170 nautical miles, ran the engine for 300 hours and burned 204 gallons of diesel. What a year! #sailing #cruising #pacificseacraft34 #caribbean by @svghostlight

Saint Lucia 🇱🇨 19 June - 25 June

Another stunning island! We spent all of our time in St. Lucia anchored by the town of Soufriere, at the base of the iconic Pitons. If there is one thing I can say about that area, it’s “get in the water.” We did some free diving and also two scuba dives while in town. The reef was vibrant: healthy, colorful and full of life! It’s some of the best reef I’ve seen, and the water was full of fish, turtles and rays too.

We had a great time exploring inland with Elize. We rented a car for a day to drive around the island, and we especially checked out the smaller, windy mountain roads. We also went to a botanical garden, some waterfalls and the beach. It was a great change of pace having Elize around, and she fit right in on Ghostlight. What an awesome visit!

Soufriere is a small town lacking a tourist vibe. We found the people to be friendly and the town really grew on us. We stayed for a couple more days after Elize flew out, and as with everyplace we’ve been recently, we could have stayed longer. But the sea was calling. @elize.simon

Martinique 🇲🇶12 June - 19 June

Martinique was a bit of a whirlwind, we stayed at 4 different anchorages during our week in the country. We had two main objectives while on this island. First was to provision. Martinique is the last island on our trip south with really well-stocked grocery stores, so we did a pretty serious provision run. Martinique is also the last French Island we will visit for awhile, so we also stocked up on cheap baguettes, wine and cheese.

Our second reason for coming to Martinique was to welcome our first visitor since leaving the USA, @elize.simon ! Elize traveled with us from Martinique to St. Lucia.

Even though we were busy, we still had time for fun with cruising friends: a spa day on the beach (mud baths and homemade lemongrass tea), trying fresh cacao for the first time, paddling down a mangrove river with the tallest mangroves I’ve ever seen, and loads of snorkeling. While doing some land exploration with Elize, we found and harvested bucketfuls of mango and super-ripe star fruit. We were also invited for dinner aboard our friend boat Shally for fresh caught fried fish (caught by them) and focaccia pizza (made by Nick). It was cool to show Elize around another cruising boat. I was having too much fun to take pictures here it seems!

We really enjoyed our time here but barely even touched the tip of the iceberg exploring this island. Hurricane season is here and we must keep heading south. taken in Martinique, Caribbean (West Indies) by @svghostlight

Breadfruit fritters, take two. They came out pretty good! We LOVE trying all the locally grown food as we travel, and there is a particular abundance of produce grown here in the West Indies! #breadfruit #westindies #cruisinglife #smallboatlife by @svghostlight

Dominica 🇩🇲5 June - 12 June

Well, you can chalk Dominica right on up there with Guadeloupe when talking about beauty. These islands are so gorgeous with their green green mountains, lush rainforests, and stunning coastlines. We rented a car (it broke down, marking the 3rd rental car we’ve had bread down on us since the Bahamas!), but once we had that sorted by the friendliest of people we were able to check out the super windy roads, inland neighborhoods, waterfalls, red rocks and more. Also, one of the car mechanics taught Nick how to open a green coconut by smashing it against a tree, one of his new favorite tricks.

We ran into some friends we had previously met in the Bahamas and ended up spending much time hanging with them! Together we went on a tour of Indian River with an amazing guide, Mr. Alexis, who shared all about his heritage and the history of the island.

Dominica was also a very social anchorage for us, we made many new friends and shared sundowners on different boats every night! One of the best parts about cruising is hanging out with fellow cruisers, and it’s always fun to check out your friend’s boats! taken in Dominica, Caribbean by @svghostlight

Guadeloupe 🇫🇷 29 May - 5 June

We spent 8 days in Guadeloupe, 4 on the main island and 4 on the out islands, Les Saintes. Guadeloupe is hands down one of the most beautiful places we have ever been. It’s so lush; both on land and in the ocean. We loved one snorkel spot so much we visited 3 times in 2 days! So many fish!

We wanted to see more of this gorgeous country so we did some land exploring with a rental car including a lunch stop in the town of Le Moule, where the women at the sidewalk restaurant insisted on setting us a table in the nearby park! We also toured the rhum distillery, Damoiseau. Did you know that rhum is different than rum?

Terre-de-Haut, Les Saintes is a small, cute, beachside village. You can see in the pictures how charmed I was by the architecture. Since it’s officially the off-season down here in the West Indies, most of the places we’ve stopped have been quiet, which we love. However, it also means we must continue south to stay out of the hurricane zone so we didn’t get as much time in Guadeloupe as we would’ve liked. Onward we sail! taken in Guadeloupe, Caribbean, Antilles Françaises by @svghostlight
