Where in the world are Mark and Christiana?

We've been spending the summer, the hurricane season, in the highlands of Mexico. We've been to Leon and we are currently wrapping up a month in San Miguel de Allende and soon, Monday, we are going to Puebla.

We've heard from a few friends that we have not done a good job of updating and showing proof of life lol. We also have not updated our blog in like two years. Maybe soon we'll actually write a post. taken in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato by @svmach5

Our border crossing into Mexico was all the feels. It started with chill because we camped at Organ Pipe and had a lovely night and great breakfast.

Then the line was a tad long due to some big ole RV buses that were getting the full service. So in park the van went while we waited... Just inside the USA. See picture 1.

Then the shifter moved but the gears didn't. At some point, the van became off and stuck in reverse. No start. No shifting gears. Stuck with the Coleman in tow in the border crossing lane. Honking ensued.

Picture 2 is Agent Castro who crawled under once Mark was under there and figured out the problem. Chevy used a plastic piece to attach the shifter to the transmission system. After 11 years, the plastic fell apart. Mark was in the process of jacking the van up to MacGyver something when the hero of a border agent showed up. Castro attached the shifter while the van was in drive. Now we could drive but we could not change gears or stop. We still had to enter Mexican inspection and explain that we couldn't park, turn off the engine, and Mark could not get out or take his foot off the brake.

Luckily, the agent working entry was gracious and allowed Mark to stay in the van while I opened everything for him. Whew!

Now, it's Sunday just after lunch. In Sonoyta. We don't want to drive the 90 mins to Peñasco without being about to stop and worrying that the wrong jolt would knock the shifter off again. I found a mechanic.

Picture 3 is the fix he crafted. This man is a godsend! He took the head of a bolt and made a replacement part in a few minutes on a Sunday afternoon. He only asked for a few minutes to finish his lunch. No, we have to wait for parts. This is the spirit we love about Mexico. Dig in and fix it. Mark said it will hold better than the plastic Chevy used in the first place.

Five months and eights days of gold medal riverfront living for free on the South Platte. It was glorious. It was annoying (mostly the obstructed Starlink and biting flies). We made great memories and met people that we hope stick around.

This morning, we still remembered how to hook up the Coleman and move her.
