Our adventure of E L L I M Ó N ... and renting a car/driving in the Dominican Republic 🙉

The waterfall is about 171ft (52m) tall and it was incredibly impressive to see in person! The pools underneath were super fun to swim in and the hike was a neat trail! 😍

We decided to rent a car. It was tough for 3 reasons:

1. The language barrier. We've been doing pretty good with our Spanish, Scott speaks well and Ky can understand things and knows some helpful words 🤣 but renting a car was a challenge!

2. The norm in the DR is to give the car on empty.. and It wasn't a gasoline/diesel car, it was propane/LPG, which we have NO experience with in terms of knowing how much to fill 😅

3. Driving is bonkers. People are flying everywhere. There are cars, moto bikes, tuk-tuks, people crossing. You have to be on full alert the whole time 😅 reminded us A LOT of Southeast Asia.

But anyway, we figured it out and our tips are:

1. When driving to El Limón, you'll see many signs saying "El Limón Parking".. But. Keep. Driving. On Google Maps the location "El Limón Parking" is the official lot. It's at a dead end with a dirt/rocky trail and a small green building on the right.

2. A guy tried to convince us that a spot was the real parking, it was 300 pesos ($6) instead of the 200 pesos ($4) we had read; which made us question whether it was the right place. So we kept driving. About 3 minutes later, we arrived at the real place.. right by the trailhead.

3. Cash only. The parking was 200 pesos ($4) and 50 pesos ($1)/pp to hike.

4. We didn't take a guide (offered at entrance), because we felt confident enough following the trail.

5. If you have the option, go in the afternoon. We arrived at 2:30pm and the large tour groups had left.

6. If El Limón is busy, before you arrive to it you'll pass a smaller waterfall. Tours didn’t go there and we had it all to ourselves!

You, me and the sea 💙🐠

One of the main reasons we wanted to live on a boat and cruise around was because we LOVE scuba diving. Some other reasons were because we love travelling/adventuring and we're just the right amount of crazy (shout-out to our liveaboard friends 🤪🤙).

Recently we've bought everything we need to go diving from Spisea and WOW this is the dream. 🤿

We have all of the regular dive gear that people have (BCDs, regulators, tanks, etc). We also have thick wetsuits, most people think it's ridiculous. But we love it! Scott has a 5mm and Ky has a 7mm. 🤣

Compressor/power details:

Our most recent upgrade to Spisea has been adding a Bauer Junior II compressor. @moondogdive configured/customized it and replaced all of the steel parts with either aluminum or stainless steel.

It's about to get real power/energy nerdy, so if you're not interested you can stop reading here. 😂

We're power obsessed so we'll talk about the cost of running it. The compressor uses 2.3kW. However, since that's a pretty high load on the inverter it probably costs about 2.7-3kW with inverter losses accounted for.

We opted for an electric compressor instead of a gas/diesel one. And we're able to run the compressor without having the generator on, which is amazing because we don't have to worry about fumes or maintenance.

We had it made/customized with a VFD that slowly ramps up the speed of the motor so it doesn't draw a huge amount at startup like the default does (we've heard it uses upwards of 10kW to start).

We're so happy with our compressor choice, we've been using it to fill tanks 2-3 times a week and it has really enabled us to go diving more frequently. We also love that it's electric, has been extremely low maintenance and can fill 2 of our tanks in about 20-30 minutes! 🙌

We finallllllly decided to fly our drone while underway and the steps/tips we followed to do it safely are below. They may be overly cautious, but we didn't want to risk our dronie or our fingers 🙃🖐

1. We went off course and put the boat on autopilot for a downwind angle (note for non sailors: this slows the boat down a lot)

2. Ky held the drone off the stern and Scott made it fly away ✈️ it took off a little sideways because of the wind... So maybe we can improve here next time.

3. We turned back on course and started moving at 6-7kts! ⛵️

4. We got some awesome footage, it was funny flying for both of us — learning how to fly it at good angles while also keeping the drone up with Spisea since we were moving so fast!

5. When we were ready to land, we turned Spisea back off course to slow us down again. We went on the bow (since there was more room) and Scott flew dronie back towards the boat. As it started coming down the drone decided on its own to go a little up but before it fully did Ky was able to reach up a little higher and grab it.

We've had a lot of practice catching our drone in our hand/not landing it on a flat surface. We can't even remember the last time we did that. And we've done some crazy things like flying it from our kayak, etc. But taking off/landing/catching it on a moving target was a new level for us! 😮‍💨😂

It's been something we've been pretty nervous to do. And honestly, we're fortunate enough to have 2 drones.. if we only had 1, I'm not sure we would have taken the risk 🤣

The water is turquoise, the vibes are high, and our hearts (and stomachs) are very, very full. 🫶

Slide to the end photo to see how the beach roast chicken turned out—spoiler alert: it was perfection. 🤤✨

They say you can never go back, but they clearly haven’t sailed back to the Bahamas. 🇧🇸✨

After three years of exploring the Eastern Caribbean, dropping anchor in San Salvador felt amazing. There’s a specific shade of blue here that just hits differently.

This is what “home” looks like for us right now. No crowds, no noise—just the fish, the tide and the sunset. ⚓️🔥

We found a seahorse (!!!) 😍

We almost couldn’t believe our eyes when we stumbled on this little fella. We haven’t seen many diving, so when we do it’s a real treat! We’ve been loving our time in Tobago, it’s been filled with lots of diving. Added a few shots from different reefs and dive sites that we’ve tried while here. 🩵

The most important chart on our boat is the one that leads us to the coffee machine! 😜 just kidding… obviously we can find the coffee machine with our eyes barely open. 👀

When you’re trying to live out your underwater dreams but you were too lazy to put on a wetsuit. Now you’re just… a human icicle in a sea of perfectly comfortable fish. 🥶 Worth it? Definitely.

Wetsuits next time? Maybe. 🤔

Nothing quite beats a hot shower after freezing while diving though! 🚿

T O B A G O •• the most east we’ve ever been with Spisea! 🇹🇹

It was quite the trek to get here with the wind and current but this island is such a stunner that we couldn’t imagine having skipped it!

We haven’t flown our dronie in a while 🫣 but thought we’d get it up for a few quick shots here because it’s so beautiful. Of course right after it got in the air we noticed a big rain cloud coming, so landed it shortly after.. but still managed to get some nice shots!

Life has been good — filled with food, swimming, diving and all the good things 🫶

S T A T I A •• aka Sint Eustatius, a Dutch island!

We have sailed past this gem a few times now in the last few years but have never gotten the chance to stop. This time we decided to take a short break from SXM and sailed over. We are so happy that we did! The scenery was amazing, the people were friendly and the diving was incredible!

We did the Quill hike, which included 1600ft (487m) to the peak! Then after we had lunch with the view, we hiked into the crater and wow it was stunning! The climate difference was wild. It went from warm and dry air to a warm and humid air. The trees were lush with massive roots, it felt like the true definition of a tropical rainforest! We descended 400ft (120m) to the bottom of the crater and then turned around and went back up, so the whole hike was a grand total of 2000ft (607m)!

Another highlight of Statia was diving, the water clarity was really good and we got to do a fun ship wreck! One of the craziest parts of the dives is that the lobsters weren’t afraid at all. They were often just on the ocean floor, not hiding. That combined with their size (they were MASSIVE) shows that they aren’t caught in this area due to it being a dive site, which was really cool! Check out the last video to see them!!

1. The peak!!
2. Rail on the shipwreck.
3. In the crater with the stunning trees.
4. Swimming through the shipwreck.
5. Bottom of the crater!!
6. Turtle friend 💚
7. Fish and a turtle swimming over the wreck.
8. Hermit buddy!
9. Lunch with a view 🥪
10. The massive lobsters! You can sort of see the size based on Scott at the end of the video.
