Bry Webb, best known as the frontman and principal songwriter of legendary Canadian indie-rock band The Constantines, returns to Winnipeg with COTS, the solo project of Montreal composer, singer and guitarist Steph Yates.

Webb's solo work carries the raw, intimate songwriting of his Constantines years into a more stripped-down and expansive sound. His most recent record, Run With Me, marked his return to recording after stepping away from music and features contributions from longtime collaborators and friends including members of The Constantines, Julie Doiron, Jennifer Castle, Daniel Romano and Steph Yates.

COTS brings a beautifully unconventional mix of folk, bossa nova, jazz and classical influences, built around Yates' intricate guitar work and distinctive voice. Her music has been described as cinematic, atmospheric and subtly experimental.

Yesterday Karen Houle gifted me a giant pinecone from Ireland. It’s like a grenade, she said. It’s my paperweight, I said. At lunch I sat with Nao in the shade and pushed the pile of papers into the sun and soon thereafter we heard a loud cracking sound. Like a dinosaur egg hatching, like an ancient mechanical lockbox unlocking, the pinecone was opening its armour. Inside each scale is a small hard seed attached to a slender paper wing. by @svwhy

Cots is the solo project of Canadian composer, singer, and guitarist Steph Yates. Blending elements of bossa nova, tropicalia, folk, jazz, and classical against a modern art backdrop, Yates has crafted a suite of subtly unconventional compositions for nylon-string guitar and voice. To enrich the arrangements of Cots songs in live performance, Yates is often accompanied by Bry Webb.

Here's to this guy with the squeaky voice, who took years to purr and finally cuddle, who executed cheese board coups with stealth, who answered my most absurd questions, a real chicken connoisseur, a silly rascal with a streak of haughty resolve. I am forever grateful for 13 years with Max the cat by my side. His company saw me through many lows and lonelinesses.

Because he needed meds twice a day, many helped me care for him and he made many human friends. Thanks to all of you. ❤️ by @svwhy
