For those of you fortunate to hear me share stories of my grandparents, you’d immediately know how much they meant to me.

Back in August, the day after my birthday, my grandma left us. They had given her four months, she blessed us with sixteen.

When I heard the diagnosis, I moved down to help you guys, not because I felt like you needed it, but because I felt I owed it to you both. I owed to you what you had shown me my whole life. To love unconditionally, to be there for friends and family when times get hard, and to laugh along the way while enjoying a few tequilas. Both of you in so many ways are the reason I am who I am today. All my passions, hobby’s, devotion for friends, family, and animals, humor, and stubbornness, I owe to you both.

You taught me it was ok to like flowers as a man, how to drive a tractor, to ride a horse, to take a shot, to crash a plane, to ski, to be unapologetically yourself. My grandpa once told me, “whatever you do, give it your whole ass, not half.”

You gave me a childhood full of memories that I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. And as I get older, I realize more and more that those moments I probably took for granted back then, were some of the greatest gifts you guys ever gave me.

On Monday last week, my grandpa joined my grandma. They had spent 65 years together.

One of the last things my grandpa said to me was, “stay strong and keep smiling.”

It’s definitely a little harder too without you both here with us.

Thank you for everything you taught me. Thank you for every story, every laugh, every adventure, every tequila, and every memory.

Thirteen years of living in Colorado came to an end back in September. Thirteen beautifully chaotic years with friends. Thank you to everyone that was a part of some of the most important years of my life. I love you all. Ps if anyone has any old pics send them, I would love to see them. by @sweaterpuppet
