“With over 60 years of relations between Sweden and Tanzania, we have a strong foundation to continue building on.

I’m looking forward to working with the Government of Tanzania to deepen our economic partnership, expand collaboration in research and innovation as well as strengthen the connections between our people.

There is great potential to take our partnership further, for the mutual benefit of both countries.”

🇹🇿🤝🇸🇪 TANZANIA AND SWEDEN EXPLORE NEW TRADE AND INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania, October 14, 2026

Tanzania is seeking to expand trade and investment cooperation with Sweden, focusing on energy, infrastructure, technology, mining, and manufacturing, as a Swedish business delegation visits the East African country to explore commercial opportunities.

Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon, Ambassador Dr. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, met the delegation in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday. The visiting business executives and investors were led by Åsa Jarskog, President of the Sweden–Africa Chamber of Commerce.

During the discussions, Kombo reaffirmed the Tanzanian government's commitment to strengthening bilateral economic relations and encouraging Swedish investment in priority sectors.

The meeting highlighted opportunities for deeper private-sector engagement and expanded commercial partnerships between Tanzanian and Swedish businesses.

Tanzania's Ambassador to Sweden, H.E. Swahiba Mndeme, had earlier accompanied the delegation on its business mission to Tanzania, aimed at identifying investment opportunities and strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.

The Swedish delegation is also expected to visit Dodoma and Zanzibar, where members will explore additional investment prospects and hold discussions with relevant stakeholders.

The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen Tanzania–Sweden economic relations through business engagement, investment promotion, and cooperation in strategic industries.

@gwajimad @wizara_afyatz @swedenintz

Ahead of #nyerereday let’s revisit a letter that helped mark the start of Tanzania - Sweden relations💚💛

On the eve of Tanganyika’s independence, Swedish PM Tage Erlander wrote to Mwalimu, recognizing the new nation and hope for “close links of cordial friendship.”

The Embassy took the historic letter to Nyerere’s home in Butiama, where his son @madarakanyerere reflected on Mwalimu’s legacy and the rich history between Tanzania and Sweden. by @swedenintz
