@bakersdozensf was fortunate to welcome master baker and all around fabulous human @sarah_c_owens as our Foreign Cinema speaker this month, where the conversation moved from both practical baking tips to broader discussions on food systems and modern agriculture. Sarah mentioned the importance of cover crops, and how farmers need these secondary crops, often nitrogen-fixing legumes, to keep their wheat fields healthy. This inspired me to bake her Field Loaf, which uses a combination of whole wheat, spelt, rye, and lentils (..I added quinoa too!) to the mix. The results - a remarkably nutritious morning toast. Eat more beans, good people! by @sweedler808
Citrus Rye Cake, such a stunner. Home milled rye flour with coriander and orange zest. Fruit grown by a dear friend, recipe from @sarah_c_owens and @1aurava11i. by @sweedler808
Maple Spelt cutie pan loaf with sweet apricot kernals, pecans, and pistachios 🥇 Spelt Custard hearth loaf 💫 Both recipes from @sarah_c_owens Patreon 🙌 Cutie mini loaf pans by @campbell2664 Lame food photography by yours truly but damn IRL these are delicious by @sweedler808

I've never met a cookie I didn't like. Foreground - polenta pistachio cookies, rye starter, no leavening ✨ And @sarah_c_owens Fermented Oat and Almond Biscuits from Patreon, perfect with an afternoon cup of tea, reminds me of my youth traveling India and Pakistan where digestives are served. #cookies #fermentedbaking #guncontrolnow by @sweedler808
Fermented dog biscuits. Enthusiasm courtesy of Sequoia, recipe from @sarah_c_owens, and questionable choice of cookie cutter falls on me! First time making a sardine dough 🤣 #sorryfelines #doglove #fermentedfoods #Ilovecatstoo by @sweedler808

Khorasan loaf, recipe by the master @sarah_c_owens. Very tasty but the lack of oven spring hurt my feelings. For my flour nerds, check out the colorful three grains used in this bread: khorasan is a warm yellow, Rouge de Bordeaux is, not surprisingly, reddish, and a sifted Edison T85 from #cairnspringmills is fairly light. by @sweedler808
Warning: Don't leave your cucumber plant unchaperoned when you leave for vacation. #willtolive #ineedapig by @sweedler808
