One month ago, Sweet Dream Bakes found its first wholesale home. What started as pop ups, custom orders, and late-night baking sessions became something much bigger: seeing my products on a shelf and sharing them with a new community. This journal captures a few moments from opening week at Anh Oi—from the soft opening, to the grand opening celebration, to the family and friends who helped make it all possible. One of my favorite parts wasn’t just seeing it all come together. It was watching people discover these sweets, hearing them connect with the stories behind them, and seeing the shop come alive. Sweet Dream Bakes was built around the flavors I grew up with and the stories that shaped me. Seeing those flavors represented in Seattle meant more than I expected. It’s a reminder of how far this little business has come—and how much more is possible. A huge thank you to Vince and the entire Anh Oi team for believing in Sweet Dream Bakes and giving us our first wholesale home. 🤎 And to my family, friends, and customers—thank you for showing up, cheering me on, and being part of this journey. Our 1st Birthday 🎂 Thank you for coming to celebrate Sweet Dream Bakes’ first anniversary with me at @aroom_coffee! I loved seeing you, making cake and nougat for you, and serving slices of our birthday cake to visitors. I had such a good time and will cherish these moments forever. 💜 Thank you @jgk____ for capturing these photos! Gina found me in the early days of Sweet Dream Bakes pre-opening pop ups. I’m so glad she liked my cake and that we’ve become close friends since then :) I got to meet many other fellow small business owners and/or foodie friends such as @auntie.wen, who also takes precious photos of my events, since then and it’s been so fun to eat out, chat with, and attend local food focused events with everyone. 🥰 I’m so grateful for my family for helping out with pop ups (and dealing with my crazy work schedule). Look at the pretty flower arrangement my aunt made~ 💐 my little cousin made the birthday sign for me! It looks like a cake top 🥺💗 One whole year of business... we made it! 🥳 What a feeling to have a dream come true. I got my start with cakes and sweet snacks and there’s still so much possibility with where I can go. Sharing Asian flavors and culture are at the core of the business, but the possibilities are unlimited. Brides have planned weddings based on my pop up offerings and I got the absolute joy of working with them to create beautiful dessert tables for their most special day. 💍 I got to experience teaching classes for the first time at my alma mater, for private classes, and for the public. 👩‍🍳 I haven’t been able to throw a tea party in over a year, but I think that is definitely coming up in the next year. Before starting the business, afternoon tea experiences were my favorite thing. It’s time to dream big and make that happen along with beautiful cake experiences! Reflecting on the present and looking towards the future 💜 I had the privilege of being featured on @studio13onfox Emerald Eats segment last Friday, 1.12.24. Thank you @seenbymg & @thebendernation for hosting and to the staff for making everything happen! Loved Bender’s cake reaction 🥺 I was quite nervous but excited to be recorded live for tv for the first time! Who would’ve thought I’d be on tv some day 🥹 and sharing my story of art, baking, and culture with people 💗 Cake is indeed a blank canvas 😆🎨🍰👩‍🍳 a delicious canvas made to celebrate you with your loved ones 🥰 I’m lucky I get to be a part of many people’s special moments in life in this way. I’ve been making cakes for years but it feels so different to be *official* after a whole grand opening ceremony and getting to see all the support coming my way. It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride since I decided to grand open Sweet Dream Bakes only a month before everything started to come together. So many changes occurred and I’ve loved every step of the journey. The recording day was pretty wild. It was 18 degrees out, the morning after Seattle’s first snow of the year, and the air was so dry. But the producer made me feel so welcome and prepared. 🥹💜 Thank you, Rio 😊 I actually had a whole response script written out for myself to memorize, but I forgot a pretty important section on the spot 🤣😅😭 everything still went well despite that though and I’m so proud of myself for how I did without much preparation and nothing to read from. The timing: it was recorded and played on tv live the day before my 1.13 pop up at Ladd & Lass to promote that, but I don’t have any events planned for the next month. The producer was aware too. Why? This is what I left out 😃 I talked a bit too much about traveling in the past and forgot to mention the future~ which is: ✈️☁️🇸🇬🇯🇵🇻🇳🇨🇳🍰 A big part of our brand is being able to travel the world for inspiration and to find flavor combos, products, and designs, and to bring them back to you. No cake, no entry! 🍰 I’ve loved watching Cake Picnic videos (such as from @thepancakeprincess & @al.chenny) from other cities for so long, so it was surreal getting to attend the Bellevue tour stop. Thank you to @cakepicnictour @visitbellevue for bringing such a fun event to our area! 💗 I loved getting to make and share the 2 tier vintage strawberry jelly chiffon cake! 🍓🍰💞 It was so much fun meeting so many talented bakers and creators, admiring everyone’s creativity, and finally putting faces to accounts I’ve followed for a while. 🥹 A special thank you to @thatgzb @papercakeshop for spending most of the afternoon chatting all things cakes & pastry with me. And getting to hang out with Seattle’s top creators @vanessaxcamille @marktellsya @nelson_eats at Bellevue Downtown Park! It made the day even more memorable. ☺️ One of my favorite surprises was the savory cucumber 🥒 cake—it was such a refreshing break from all the sweetness, and my family loved it too! There were 300 different cakes to choose from! 🤯🎂 I already can’t wait for the next Cake Picnic. What if your favorite café drink became cake? 🥭🍵 One of my favorite things to make at home is tea and fruit drinks, so this summer I wanted to capture that feeling in dessert. 🍰💜 Introducing the Mango Honey Jasmine Cake Parfait 🥭 Layers of soft vanilla chiffon, fresh mango, mango purée, honey jasmine tea jelly, whipped cream, and crispy white chocolate pearls. Bright, refreshing, and made to taste like biting into a perfectly ripe mango with a sip of honey jasmine tea. One of my favorite parts is all the different textures. Soft and fluffy cake and cream, bouncy honey jasmine tea jelly (made with agar, so it’s gelatin-free!), juicy ripe mango, and crispy white chocolate pearls for just the right contrast. I love building desserts that surprise you with every bite. This is the first in a new collection of tea-inspired cake parfaits, and I’m already dreaming up more flavors. I’m also excited to bring these playful textures and flavor combinations into future celebration cakes and wedding desserts—sometimes the best cake ideas begin in the smallest cups. “The mountain is out!” ⛰️🩵 Every Seattleite knows the feeling. The clouds part, Mount Rainier appears, and suddenly everyone is stopping for photos 😆 This summer, I’m partnering with @dashofsoy to host a Mount Rainier Cake Painting Workshop inspired by the majestic mountain that watches over so many of our Seattle adventures. We’ll spend the afternoon using cake as our canvas to paint edible Mount Rainier landscapes, while creating beautiful layered drinks to sip along the way—part cake workshop, part café experience, and all about slowing down and enjoying the creative process. ✨ Upcoming class: • July 12 As Seattle welcomes visitors from around the world this summer, it feels like the perfect time to share a little piece of the Pacific Northwest through cake, creativity, and community. A cake that felt like it belonged in Velaris ✨ This three-tier design blended soft texture with organic, whimsical details — delicate florals, natural branches, and cascading greenery that created an almost enchanted, storybook feel. The gold stand and candlelight added warmth, while the surrounding details tied seamlessly into the celestial-inspired design of the evening. Sweet Dream Bakes is officially at Anh Oi Bakeshop 💜 Seeing my products on the shelves felt surreal 🥹 What began as sharing sweets through pop-ups and special events has now become part of a space built around community, culture, and storytelling through food. One of the things I admire most about what Vince created with Anh Oi is the idea of a third culture bake shop — a space where Asian flavors, memories, and identities can exist naturally and beautifully together, while still feeling welcoming to everyone who walks in. As someone whose work is deeply inspired by culture, nostalgia, and the desserts I grew up with, it means so much to share my bakes in a space like this.
