Two volunteers who quietly and diligently make the Foundation what it is, are Steve and Lynette Waugh.

Since 2005, Steve and Lynette have volunteered for the Steve Waugh Foundation, dedicating their time and expertise to support very rare children and young adults who fall through the gaps of healthcare and assistance.

Their commitment has provided hope and support to thousands of rare families around Australia for more than 22 years.

It’s all smiles from Grant Recipient, Alia. We recently approved funding for a specialised throwing chair for athletic field events for Alia who loves competing in Little Athletics.

Currently, Alia is using a make-shift chair at her weekly meets and relies on the kindness of others to sharing their equipment at competitive events.

Having a specialised chair of her own will mean Alia can practice and compete using consistent equipment and be able to train effectively.

We are so excited to see Alia in action!

💚 Mum to grant recipient, Axel, shares his powerful rare disease journey with us 💚

Axel lives with a rare disease called IQSEC2. His condition is life-threatening due to uncontrolled seizures and respiratory compromise. Axel will require 24/7 care for his entire life. Due to IQSEC2, Axel is unable to put pressure on his legs, stand, walk, or sit unassisted. He has global development and intellectual delays and is non-verbal.

Despite his daily challenges, Axel is always happy and smiling.

To support Axel and his family, we provided a grant for a Hi-Low bath.

“Your generosity has made a significant difference to the comfort, dignity, safety, and wellbeing of Axel. Something as simple as having access to the right bathing equipment will greatly help and support.

I am Lucy. I have Radio-Tartaglia Syndrome. I was granted a specialised bike. 🌟

Lucy’s SWF grant for a specialised bike has given her endless amounts of fun. Lucy’s active family love the outdoors, and thanks to this grant, Lucy can join in on family bike rides, explore the local community, and participate in much-loved family activities. 🚴‍♀️

Donations to the Steve Waugh Foundation provide hope.

For sisters Amielle and Taya, SWF grants have provided them with a chance to enjoy childhood despite the profound challenges they face every day.

Amielle and Taya live with an extremely rare disease that is one in a million. Xeroderma Pigmentosum increases their risk of skin cancer by 10,000 times and carries a significant risk of neurological complications. No amount of UV exposure is safe.

Through the generous donations of our supporters, the Steve Waugh Foundation has funded specialised outdoor play equipment and contribution to the build of a UV safe structure which will be a sanctuary for the girls to be able to play outdoors safely.
