POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
When class is almost over, participants are almost totally spent, but there’s just a bit more work to do… these are the songs that I use for the final moments. Music can add energy to the room in a powerful way. These include a variety of genres; some are older some are newer. What did I miss? Share your favorite end-of-class song. ⬇️ If you want all of these, I did make a playlist so ask in the comments and you shall receive. 😊

So, in keeping with the theme of this reel I had a caption fully written and my phone died. ☠️ The universe might be emphasizing my message: it doesn’t always go to plan. I tend to overthink. Hopefully that usually results in a carefully curated flow for my clients. Sometimes it leads to me getting stuck by giving too much consideration to the next move. I wanted to show a more accurate reflection of the planning process. Social media is a highlight reel as we all know. I did end up liking this leg block; feel free to borrow. Then when it comes time to teach, you connect with your clients, you put on some hype music and it usually all comes together.

After finishing the core block with knee strap crunches, I went into a reverse, kneeling arm flow. We dropped the cables, adjusted springs, and scooted back to begin the left leg. My heel should be on the edge of the carriage rather than the ball of my foot. But like everyone else, I’m busy and tired and constantly multitasking so I did not re-film. 😘

Core Memory. Lagree on the lake with my people and the man who created a movement: @sebastien.lagree . I’ve been a student of this method for over 9 years and will always be a participant, in addition to teaching. The workout was killer; my legs were shaking and quaking. Moving with friends, along the lakeshore, with the beautiful skyline in the background really was an experience that will stick with me. The sky was magical.

Note the last picture: some of us had a post-event cocktail, and I bumped into more lovely clients. 🥂Grateful for this community, this experience, and this evening.

Special shoutout to @jennancordaro too. She was a huge part of the evening and has been supportive when taking class with me and I’ve also “met” so many cool people online. I have more travels to take and more studios to visit for sure.

Playlist can be a verb. I have certain elements I always try to include and I’ll probably share more of those later. This batch of songs includes the ones where I initially wondered if they qualified as “workout worthy.” They may seem a little slow honestly. But they have a vibe. I’ve used them all and felt the shift in the room when they begin. The energy stills and it’s a good time to allow participants to quietly focus on the work (as long as form is safe to do so of course.) I like to plug these into like the last 1/4 of the playlist, before amping up the bpm or energy for that last 5-10 minutes.
•
Got any suggestions to share with me for this batch?

Borrow my leg block:

1 heavy 2 light
Spider Lunge
Heavy Squats
Skating & Reverse Skating
2 heavy (for me) generally cue 1 heavy 3-5 light
Side Lying Press
1 light Elevator

Clearly I love a heavy leg into a light finish. 😅 This reel may be my reminder to mix it up a bit. Today I taught light pull into heavy push. Also, I am obsessed with these shorts from @beyondyoga . They have full coverage underneath so I feel comfortable I’m not flashing anyone while working hard. I sized down from my normal shorts size. When the work starts to really hit: I’m usually a smile, laugh, or woo type of person in class when I’m fighting for my life.

Do you smile in class or all business? ❤️

If you’re already over this trend, jump to the last slide for the opposite of chic. 🫠 To be clear, chic is never a word I’d associate with myself. For me, this “kinda chic” means kind of wonderful. There have been different points in my life where my self esteem was not great, probably like most of us humans existing on the planet. It was so hard for me to initially apply to places like Shred415 and Studio Lagree after staying home with my kids for years. Fitness is an industry often geared toward youth and celebration of youth. And when I first started in the industry, I was already 38 years old, which I now know to be young still. Imposter syndrome is real. I’m grateful always for the encouragement I’ve received from family, friends & mentors along the way when I was hesitant to start or almost gave up. As I continue to grow in this role, I find so much joy in teaching and community. I’ve been realizing that I am a part of that joy. To my coworkers and participants, the positive energy that you give back amazes me. So often, I feel like the class is almost in a collective flow state. I’d like to think that maybe I at least set the tone for that as the instructor. I put these photos together on Sunday and, dare I say, was feeling a little bit proud.

Then my older dog was nowhere to be found despite me calling and searching. I became convinced that she was lost. Turns out she was hiding from me (and likely the smoke detector battery noise that was so annoying.) One can quickly go from feeling a little proud to feeling terrified and ashamed. I thought it was my fault she was lost. The ups and the downs of life... In this case, the “down” had a happy ending because I found her hiding and shivering, but OK. Also a reminder that social media is a highlight reel. If I had posted this carousel yesterday, I would not have had the scary morning- thinking my beloved dog was gone. We all go through things and struggle and not all of it is shared publicly. Maybe that’s why it is so important to celebrate the good moments and the good milestones, because certainly there will be challenge again around the corner. Keep going, stumble, try again, find joy.

Giant Reverse Catfish to end core block is a fast transition into back lunge. Then, good luck. 🍀😉
•
This block includes some of my favorite moves. I’ve found when I’m filming, I’m motivated to hold longer but less motivated to switch to the other side. 🫠😅 This is why you’ll generally see me taking class in a group too, rather than working out on my own. There’s so much energy to draw from in a group Lagree class and that inspires me to stick with it, move slower, and obviously not lie down on the carriage. 😉
•
Do each move 1 min, add variations, add second set, static hold. Thoughts or questions? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! It’s been so nice to connect with Lagree folks all over.

A minute at the back of the mega can feel like the longest minute of your life. 😅
Everyone has that block in class that feels like a personal attack. The oblique block is my nemesis. *My GR twisted inchworm form is not perfect here and I could work on low ab engagement.

What’s the most challenging block for you?

🔥 Core & obliques
🦵 Legs & glutes
💪 Upper body
⚖️ Balance & stability

Drop your answer below. ⬇️ Or, tell me your favorite block too.

*note on programming: I love to put the side plank first because generally even new clients know it and can get into it quickly. Then it’s an easy cue to prep them for a GR twisted inchworm (or saw or crunch) because the knees are already set.

When the front desk staff compliments my playlist even though she had to listen to it three times in a row, that’s a good sign. There will always be some rap, a throwback or two, some pop or EDM like Rüfüs, and something 🔥for that final effort of class. Playlist is a verb to me.
•
If you want the list (that my front desk person really did compliment,) leave me a comment and I’ll send you the link.

Came to @studiolagreechicago over 9 years ago because one of my best and fittest friends told me I had to try it. Shout out to you @nazsaidi 😘 I did find an amazing, constantly challenging, never boring workout. I stayed because there’s so much more to the practice.

Lagree requires focus and presence. All the unnecessary thoughts, worries, or concerns I have are pushed aside. I struggle and persevere every class. A modified move completed is absolutely perseverance. It feels good to be committed to being a student of the method, and it feels good to know the discipline it requires to consistently show up over 9 years. The community of instructors and clients is incredible. I take Lagree every trip I can too. So many instructors have helped shape me and my practice and that is a gift that gives back. Whether teaching or taking, I’m inspired. Finally, less is more. I’ve been saying my summer motto is, “How few can you do?” Fewer reps, slower, smaller movements, time under tension, it’s hard but at the same time- it’s freeing. As someone who was always asked to do more, and wanted to do more, it’s almost a relief to be asked to “do less.” (In quotes because slow tempo adds intensity.)
•
Sending gratitude out into the universe today, or at least the Instagram world, to everyone whose path I’ve crossed along the way. I hope if Lagree isn’t your workout of choice, you find a movement you love to do. I’m biased though and think this one is pretty amazing.

Leg Series Inspo! I hope the sound is Elderbrook and not my huffing and puffing. 😮‍💨 Had a client today say it wasn’t her first class but it felt like it was. I confirmed that after many years (9‼️) of taking class it’s still always challenging and humbling for me too. I said I hope she felt validated.
•
-Video is 3x speed-
I did 1 round of bilateral heavy squats (1 heavy 1 light) first before stepping off the machine into the standing spider kick.
•1 heavy 2 light reverse donkey kick
•1 light GR SL half kneeling hamstring curl
Twist idea borrowed from @wellnessbykaty
-easy transition to-
•Express Lunge
right into obliques with French Twist
•
Fast transitions are great but I also really love a leg series where you can be on the front, carriage, and back… an around the world if you will. 🌎
