Ten years ago I started making a #screenPRINTED and #BLACKLIGHTpainted line of #wearableARTjewelry.
🔮✨
The painted canvas pieces needed a #HANDsewn finished edge that took an incredible amount of time, and I couldn’t keep up with production demand as a solo artist.
🪡🧵
My background in Cultural Anthropology and International Development made me see this challenge as an opportunity to create EMPOWERING jobs in the ARTS with WOMEN around the World.
🌎 🎨
After all, needle and thread is an incredible ancestral art form that can be done in remote places with limited resources.
❤️🔥
In 2018 during an artist residency in Guatemala I was introduced to a group of women that had organized to support each other. A group made of mostly single-mothers and older-generation women that needed better work opportunities.
👯‍♀️🤗
It was a fateful connection and EIGHT YEARS LATER we have grown our artist collaborations to support over 20+ women in Guatemala with our #artWORK opportunities.
