We’re all told to make the ‘responsible’ choice. The career path that guarantees a steady paycheck, stability, security—whatever that means. We’re conditioned to believe that success is defined by numbers in a bank account, by job titles, by how efficiently we fall in line with the system.

But what if the thing that lights you up—the thing that makes you feel alive—doesn’t come with a guaranteed paycheck? What if the path that calls to you doesn’t promise success, only passion and purpose?

Do you take the safe road, knowing exactly where it leads? Or do you take the one filled with uncertainty, risk, and the possibility of something greater than money—something that actually means something?

I’ve wrestled with this choice more times than I can count. The responsible option was always there, whispering, ‘Play it safe.’ But the other path, the one fueled by passion, by the what ifs, by the undeniable pull of something more—that’s the one I keep being pulled back to.

The truth is, no one can tell us which road to take. But I do know this: the ‘safe’ choice isn’t always the right one. And the risky one? It might just be the only one that makes you feel like you’re really living.

I’m looking ahead with hope 🤍

Last year was one of the hardest of my life. Long Covid took a wrecking ball to my body and mind—frequent hospital visits, relentless fatigue, severe brain fog that stole my vocabulary and memories, breathing and heart issues that made everyday tasks feel impossible, and back pain that threatened to take away my livelihood. Depression and anxiety followed close behind, making the future feel like a place I wasn’t sure I’d ever want to reach.

But life has a way of balancing the scales. In the midst of all that darkness, I finally finished my first book. I met the most incredible, inspiring, passionate, and loving partner—someone who reminded me what it means to feel truly alive. I was also given an opportunity that turned my financial situation around, proving that even in the depths of struggle, life can surprise you with unexpected gifts. ✨

This year feels different. My health has improved—there’s still a road ahead, but I’m walking it with strength I didn’t have before. And for the first time in a long while, the future feels replete with possibilities.

My goals for this year?
📖 Get my book Broken - Pivotal Moments of Change published.
✍️ Start writing my next book.
🎙️ Launch a multimedia platform focused on health, relationships, the environment, sustainable and intentional communities and many other topics of inspiration for a better world we know is possible.

If the past 5 years has taught me anything, it’s that pain can shape you, but it doesn’t have to define you. The road ahead is paved with possibilities, and I’m ready to take the next step.

To everyone who’s still in the thick of it—hold on. There’s light ahead.

I have struggled to harness joy in my life over these past three months as I battled exhaustion brought on by long covid and myocarditis.

It’s so easy to take our health for granted until we are sick, our full bellies until we are starved, or our finances until we are broke. Suddenly the Maslow Hierarchy crumbles and sends us back to the most basic of needs.

That feeling was exacerbated by coming off the high of three years on the road. Everyday provided a new adventure, new challenges, new lives to interact with, and unconventional lessons about life. I was exposed to alternative forms of community and relationships, and was challenged on my definitions of words like success, love, and purpose.

Being back in Western society, I have struggled to integrate those incredible lessons learned, as habitual behaviours reignite - that I had truly believed I had long moved past. Minimalism ebbs to materialism, simplicity replaced by greed, passion wanes to necessity and love becomes distant and uncertain.

Yet today I feel better than yesterday and I have faith that tomorrow will be brighter too. Everything has a season, and I have faith that the tenebrosity of this long winter is near its end. As my health returns, the depression subsides and as my mind breaks through the fog, the road ahead has begun to reveal itself.

It’s time to breathe, to find my feet, and to move forward once again with conviction and clarity.

In the intricate tapestry of our environment, contrasting hues of degradation and conservation paint a vivid portrait of our current reality. The relentless march of industrialization and urbanization has left scars upon the Earth, manifesting in deforestation, pollution, and climate change. Ecosystems reel under the weight of human exploitation, biodiversity dwindles, and natural resources teeter on the brink of exhaustion. Yet, amidst the desolation, glimmers of hope emerge. Conservation efforts gain momentum, renewable energy sources flourish, and grassroots movements mobilize to protect our planet’s fragile ecosystems. The current state of the environment is a call to action, a reminder of our shared responsibility to safeguard the precious gift of nature for future generations. Sometimes it can feel hopeless, but I choose to have faith ✨

I can’t believe it’s already been nine months since I set to work on the second draft of the book. Now, I’m merely a month away from finishing the fourth and final one. It marks a significant milestone on a journey that has been both arduous and rewarding in ways I’ve never anticipated. I’m thrilled to announce the soft launch of my official website, jamieswitch.com, a platform solely dedicated to my upcoming book.

These past months have been a rollercoaster of self-doubt followed by periods of sustained inspiration. But through it all, the conviction that this book needs to be shared has never wavered. I believe that it has the potential to help others in times of grief, and to bring hope to those who feel lost. After years of travelling the globe, in mid-January I returned to a town that held a lot of painful memories for me. I set to work on writing a book about my experience, using the energy of San Pancho to rekindle the emotions I had worked so hard to rise above. During my travels I found new depths of forgiveness I never knew were possible, delved into shadow aspects of myself that have guided my experience thus far, reimagined what my life could become in the wake of the ending of my marriage, and developed a strong sense of self-love that never existed before. It’s been a long eight months of grinding towards my goal. To start, I had to learn how to write a book, find my voice, and build confidence inside myself to see it all through. I’m happy to announce that I’ve just completed the final version of the third draft, and sent it out to the editors and to a group of authors for review. In less than a month, I will begin the fourth draft, and soon I will close this chapter of my life, with no idea about what comes next. All this has been possible with the wonderful support of Barb Kirkwood, to whom I owe a huge debt of gratitude.

I still need to find literary representation, publication, and finish building the website, but completing the third draft has proven to be a monumental accomplishment for me and I just wanted to share this with you all.
