Sybil’s has roots going back to 1976, and its Lauderhill location has been serving halal food in South Florida for over a decade! ❤️

We tried:
✔️ Jerk + fried chicken with lo mein
✔️ Sorrel + peanut punch
✔️ Buss up shut (paratha roti) 🤤 I could order 20!
✔️ Pastries — cassava pone is my favorite.

🇬🇾✨ Honoring a true pioneer in Guyanese cuisine ✨🇺🇸

In 1976, Sybil Bernard-Kerrutt opened Sybil’s Bakery & Restaurant in New York City—helping introduce authentic Guyanese flavors to the U.S. at a time when Caribbean cuisine was still underrepresented.

After immigrating from Guyana in 1969, she began baking from home to support her family. What started as survival turned into legacy.

Her restaurant became a cornerstone of what is now known as “Little Guyana” in Queens, paving the way for future Caribbean-owned businesses and preserving Guyanese culture through food.

Sybil Bernard-Kerrutt is widely recognized as a trailblazer and matriarch of Guyanese cuisine in America.

Her impact is undeniable. Her legacy lives on. 🇬🇾❤️
