A rising tide lifts all boats ❤️❤️ in ten years of @marjigesick history no woman had ever earned the coveted sub 12 hour buckle. UNTIL YESTERDAY.

From start to finish this was a team effort between @kait.boyle @shreddy.j.betty @kgbmcbride and me. It was time for this barrier to go down and we were all in to get someone across the finish line in a time that started with 11. Kristy shared her local course knowledge and pacing strategies from several years of attempts, Julie and I brought our experience from last year's Marji and Kait brought a career of ultra experience (and some horsepower). And Mother Nature threw in some really nice racing weather... I don't think any of us were sure this was possible yesterday morning, but we all brought enough belief to cancel out the doubts. After all, it's hard to keep thinking something is impossible when you are watching the women in front of you do it. I think the Marji is going to see a lot more female bucklers from here on out.

This day took my expectations for my own personal performance and blew them out of the water. I didn't know I could ride the way I did yesterday. And although this has been a goal of mine for a year, I didn't really think it was possible until I got to Jasper Knob and someone said "you have fourteen minutes." At which point, I promptly started blubbering.

Thank you Todd and Danny for creating a race that brought us together to bring out our best ❤️

Ultimately, Kait crossed the finish line with a blistering 11:46, me in 11:50 and Kristy in 11:55. Unfortunately Julie had an unlucky day-ending crash late in the race, after being on buckle pace with us for the first 9 hours 😭

Racing on our home trails was an interesting experience, especially since we had designed the course, and we were worried people would find it too difficult. Fortunately everyone seemed to enjoy it and many thanked us for designing a "real mountain bike course".

Like anything else on a bike, clipless pedals benefit from regular cleaning and maintenance, especially with gritty or sandy conditions. And a tiny bit of maintenance goes a long way in this case. If you start getting a sticky pedal, or feel like you can't get out of the clips as quickly as you usually do, try this before you turtle! 🐢🐢 @xpedousa @squirt_cycling_us 👌 by @sydandmacky
