In one of his favorite late-season races, Macky Franklin (@SydAndMacky) lined up for the Road Apple Rally in Farmington, New Mexico.

Always a test of speed, Road Apple attracts some of Southern Colorado and New Mexico’s top cycling talent. This year was no exception, with the top five men in the pro field finishing within just over a minute of each other after 30 miles of racing.

Macky added another twist to the day, racing a prototype 32-inch-wheeled bike to 3rd place in the pro men’s field.

Crossing that finish line knowing this is back 8.5 years later is truly indescribable.

I used to watch old race footage just to remember what I was fighting for and who I am. It’s easy to lose sight of that after one year, let alone eight.

If you’d told me on January 1st that I’d race a full season, I don’t think I would have believed you. But here we are, ending 2026 on the highest point possible.

The joy and magic of it all is what I’ll be building from this off-season. Maybe it’s the friends, the community, the trails, the adrenaline, the adventure, the tactics, the empowerment a bike brings. Heck, it’s all of it and so much more.

Having this piece back, getting to grow as an athlete, becoming a better human, and knowing I not only belong but believe in her again… that’s everything. ❤️

Cyclists know that the real end of the year falls somewhere between September-November, so here’s a picture for each month of my last 12.

Was an all-time last season as a junior and grateful for all the growth both on and off the bike that I was able to find. I can’t thank @bearnationalteam , @jviolich , and @usacycling enough for all the opportunities presented to me this year. I created tons of experiences I will never forget and continue to reach more clarity in this sport that often seems more cluttered than it is. I’m also grateful for all the people I’ve had the pleasure to meet because of my bike, and I continue to realize that the connections that are built as a result of the sport are likely the best thing of it all.

Feeling super motivated going into a couple weeks off the bike to give the system a real reset and then start chipping away towards next year’s goals. Already itching to keep building and to get my teeth kicked in a bit next year with the U23s.

It was a last minute decision to race the @transrockiesbike New Mexico Stage race. 3 days of fast technical racing at altitude. A early crash on stage 1 put me on the back foot but I was able to rally and stay in contention for the podium ✅

IS “THROWBACK THURSDAY” STILL A THING?

Honestly… we have no idea. But whether it is or isn’t, we still want y’all to see what New Mexico Singletrack was all about last weekend!

Great trails. Huge smiles. And ALL New Mexico... Basically, a perfect weekend.

New Mexico Singletrack Stage Race 🎉
.
.
fun times pushing the pace with these BA ladies throughout the weekend of racing! Congrats to @deanna.mayles for sweeping all 3 stages! @ekridexc @sydandmacky and I were back and forth a lot throughout each day.

I was happy to end up 2nd for stage 1 then 3rd just behind Erin on stage 2. The last day didn’t go so smoothly with a bad puncture and subsequent broken tube stem 🤦‍♀️ got rolling again eventually with some motivation from @swansonious and ended up 5th overall GC even though I was dead last after my mechanical 😝 just shows there’s always a chance;)

first time to Los Alamos; trails and town were quite unique! and fittingly a little marji esque;) overall such a great event! Chill vibes except when the gun went off each morning of course;)

@transrockiesbike crew and volunteers managed the new event seamlessly!

and thanks to @bikesmithcycleryaz for keeping my @pivotcycles in tip top shape to battle all sorts of wild tails the event threw at us!

First ever @transrockiesbike NM Singletrack stage race was all-time, awesome to race with good friends and racers that I look up to on trails that I’ve been riding for years. New Mexico has some hidden gems and it’s excellent that we have a proper race organizer focusing on doing it justice, really hoping this race sticks for a while the whole crew did such a good job the first time around 🫶

Dead chuffed that the late season fitness showed up for this one, 2nd in GC and even snagged a stage. Earned some cash for riding my bike too and that’s always a nice bonus.

Maybe another race in the next couple weeks, maybe not, we’ll see. Grateful to be living like this.

It’s been a big and sometimes tough couple of weeks for Durner Performance athletes, with wins, course records, redemption, and plenty of grit along the way.

Katie Branham (@ktbranham) went the biggest as she returned to the Vapor Trail 125 looking for redemption after having to withdraw 14 hours into the race last year. This time, she made it happen, finishing all 125 miles and 18,000 feet of climbing in one of the toughest mountain bike races around.

Justin Spangler (@jrsprangler_) put together two huge weekends. He took the overall win at LoToJa on Sept. 12, setting a new course record in the process, then followed it up with the men’s 35–39 title at the Gran Fondo National Championships.

At Rebecca’s Private Idaho, Liz Saenz (@saenzter) took the win in the Para Female Upright category, while Brian Cone (@brian_conetucky) battled all the way to the finish to take second in the Para Male Recumbent category.

Down in New Mexico, Macky Franklin (@sydandmacky)won two stages on his way to the overall title at the inaugural New Mexico Singletrack Stage Race.

Of course, racing isn’t all sunshine and gummy bears. These past couple of weeks have also brought illness, a medical emergency, crashes, and DNFs for our athletes too. That’s part of life and sport though, and these athletes keep showing up when things get hard.
