Cheers to 3 months of teaching the next generation of marine scientists abroad in South Africa with @oceansresearch

Words can't describe how much this experience has changed me. I never thought I would enjoy teaching, yet at the end of each month I felt myself holding back tears (sometimes unsuccessfully) watching our students leave.

Helping people learn, gain confidence in their abilities, and grow into themselves in a place so far from home is so rewarding. I have met so many amazing people with so many different personalities, learning styles, life stories, attitudes, and interests.

Thank you to my mentors, coworkers, friends, and students, for making this summer so impactful and memorable. I couldn't have asked for a better support system.

Love you all so insanely much!

14 days, 26 dives, 10000 bug bites, a bunch of new friends, and 2 new mentors later, I can finally thank @uoftampa for offering this program and especially Dr. Lori McRae for encouraging me to apply. I've learned so much and gained so much experience in conducting research and have contributed to the global efforts in restoring our coral reefs which has always been a dream of mine after watching the reefs in Abaco, Bahamas, a place very special to me, quickly decline over 6 years. I hope to continue to make a difference on this earth. 🪸❤️ taken in Roatan, Honduras by @sydneyprimrose

Wow. Time went by way too fast. It's impossible to put into words how much this month has meant to me. Ive had the most incredible experiences and met the most incredible people, from witnessing extremely rare predations to participating in multiple necropsies and dissections; seeing my first White Sharks in the wild, seeing wild Orcas and Southern Right Whales breaching, being hands on with South Africa's endemic sharks (my fav activity-slide 9), working alongside organizations like @seasearchresearch @godivesa @whitesharkafrica @marinedynamics @sharkresearchunit and the wonderful people of Stranded Marine Animal Rescue Team, just to name a few. I am so overwhelmingly filled with emotions, happy-sad-amazed-motivated, I could go on forever. I have learned such a wealth of information and formed so many connections and friends, thank you @oceansresearch for giving me the opportunity to be apart of something so life changing. I'll be back🤞 taken in Mosselbaai, Western Cape, South Africa by @sydneyprimrose

4 years of hard work and dedication paid off, I am officially a Bachelor of Marine Science- Biology!
In the words of Isaac Brock, lead singer of Modest Mouse, "I'm the same as I was when I was 6 years old." My younger self would be ecstatic, not many people can say they are achieving their dream career.
Thank you to the University of Tampa for offering me so many amazing opportunities and specialized classes, from being a vertebrate zoology laboratory mentor, to studying ichthyology, to even doing scuba-based coral research in Honduras.
Each semester was a confirmation that I was in the right place.
Special thanks to the McRaes, Dr. Middlebrooks, and Dr. Ambrosio.
