On the boards: a 1960 Al Beadle, reimagined.

Originally designed by Beadle and later modified along the way, this home had great bones. Our client wanted a Japanese-inspired, modern approach, so we’re leaning into honest materials, quiet lines, and a stronger connection between inside and out.

Mid-century modernism and Japanese design share a lot of DNA: restraint, indoor/outdoor flow, craft, and respect for light. This interior remodel is about letting those two conversations meet.

Katerina is a Laguna Beach-based architect specializing in residential projects and the host of @fromthehoneycombpodcast, a podcast celebrating fearless female entrepreneurs and trailblazing women in architecture and beyond.

For her website refresh for @kbarchitectinc, we created a design that’s sophisticated yet approachable, with a soft, coastal-inspired palette. The site highlights her thoughtful approach, vision over ego, and core values, while bringing together her portfolio and a shop for digital and physical products in one cohesive space.

Architect’s Eye—I recently saw the TWA Terminal by Eero Saarinen in New York for the first time. Curves are notoriously difficult in architecture; to design, to build, especially figuring out material transitions.

A great example is the floor-to-wall condition. The curved, no-baseboard detail carries the building’s geometry seamlessly to the floor, made possible by penny tile. The small format allows the curve to be built without awkward seams, while creating a durable, easy-to-maintain surface for a high-traffic space. One material for both floor and wall does a lot of heavy lifting here!
