Voting is one of the ways we turn our power into action. It’s a tool for creating change, shaping our future, and getting one step closer to building the resources and protections our communities deserve.

If you’re able to register to vote, use your voice. Use your power. Make it count.

We say none of us are free until all of us are free.

But liberation language means very little if the people most impacted by cages, criminalization, and state violence are only remembered in theory.

Black trans people do not stop being our community because they are incarcerated.

They are still worthy of care.
Still worthy of correspondence.
Still worthy of spiritual covering.
Still worthy of political commitment.
Still worthy of being remembered.

This Saturday, Reuniting of African Descendants (ROAD) joins Black Trans Travel Fund, Arm The Dollz, Black Trans Media, F2L Network, Sylvia Rivera Law Project, and community partners for A Black August Teach-In & Letter Writing Workshop in Solidarity with Incarcerated Trans People.

Together, we will gather to study the history and political meaning of Black August, ground ourselves in community, write to incarcerated trans people, share resources, and practice a solidarity that does not end at the prison wall.

Because abolition cannot only be something we say.

It has to shape who we remember, who we reach for, and who we refuse to let the state disappear.

Saturday, August 29
3–5 PM
The Free Black Women’s Library, Brooklyn

Free food. Free books. Free masks. Political education. Letter writing. Community care.

Come ready to learn.
Come ready to write.
Come ready to remember.

Our people are still our people, wherever the state has placed them.

Study. Fast. Train. Fight. by @sylviariveralawproject

(Update 8.24 - this event is postponed)

Every year SRLP celebrates the life and legacy of Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson. They are two icons that fought together tirelessly for the trans community and are a significant reason for where we are today.

Join SRLP on Tuesday, August 25 from 6 - 9pm at the Christopher Street Pier to honor and celebrate the lives of Sylvia and Marsha.

This month we take the opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the contributions of transgender pioneers, activists and trailblazers. The transgender community has a rich history steeped in fight, struggle and resilience and we will never forget that.

PACK THE COURT! JUSTICE FOR ERYKA CALDWELL!

Monday, July 27th 9:00am at 320 Jay street, Room SCDV 2

Join Eryka’s family and pack the courthouse to show that we will not let the Brooklyn DA let killer Jonathan Fernandez off easy. When trans women are killed, their murderers face little to NO CONSEQUENCES for their cruel brutality. Fuck that! Fernandez and all the bloody murderers of innocent trans women must be locked away. The monsters continue to attack, abuse, and kill trans people because our government not only protects them, they encourage and enact policies and hatred against trans people. END THE MURDER OF TRANS WOMEN!

Pull up Monday!!! by @sylviariveralawproject

Drag is a form of self expression and celebration and it’s an art that has been around for centuries.

Did you know: The first self-proclaimed drag queen was a Black formerly enslaved man - William Dorsey Swann. In the late 1880s, Swann started hosting private balls known as drags.

Drag has always been a powerful form of expression for our community, and it will continue to thrive as long as queer and trans people exist.
