2026 ❤️‍🔥 Sym Stellium (UK): I’m a cow / you’re a b*tch

📍To / Thu 17.9. 21:00

📍Hallikatu 5

📍Kesto / Duration: 30 min

📍Kieli / Language: Ei puhuttua kieltä. No spoken language.

🖤

”I’m a cow / you’re a b*tch” tarkastelee patriarkaalisen kapitalismin, naisvihan ja luonnonvarojen riiston risteyskohtia transmaskuliinisesta ja ihmistä laajemmasta näkökulmasta.

🖤

‘I’m a cow / you’re a b*tch’ interrogates the intersections of patriarchal capitalism, misogyny and extraction from a transmasc and more-than-human perspective.

There is a tethering, between a trans body and the heart of a cow. Through this connection of needle and thread, there is also a delicate dance of weight, pain and distance. A relationship begins to form between Sym and the heart; between consumption and the burdens we carry, and the violence that is inflicted upon bodies seen as beneficial for (re)production and domination.

🖤

Tapahtuma järjestetään yhteistyössä Live Art Development Agencyn (LADA) ja Future Kin -hankkeen kanssa. Tukijat: Suomen instituutti Isossa-Britanniassa ja Irlannissa, Ison-Britannian suurlähetystö Helsingissä sekä Nordic Culture Point.

Co-presented with the Live Art Development Agency (LADA) and the Future Kin project. Supported by the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland, the British Embassy in Helsinki and the Nordic Culture Point.

Sym has joined BQA as one of our Assistant Interviewers 💜 As a Brummie / Black Country bab who experienced their queer becoming in various communities in Birmingham - as well as working with queer and QTIBPOC folk in the city for over 8 years - Sym is interested in queer archives and histories as a part of their own lineage in Birmingham, and how these stories can bring a new sense of affinity to the city - for themself and other queer brummies trying to find their place.

Sym is a live artist, arts & community facilitator and ritualist based in Birmingham. Their practise primarily focuses on connection and communication, and how liberatory practices can be attempted on both micro and macro levels.

TONIGHT 7PM @ The Edge Digbeth. Talk of the Town ~ RAGE&RELEASE 🔥~ your queer night where oversharing is encouraged, hot takes are protected and vibes are championed. Free tickets. link in bio

This one’s loud. It’s for the clapbacks you rehearsed in the shower. The protests you marched in. The family dinners you survived. The quiet resentment and the righteous fury. Anger doesn’t make us bitter. It makes us honest. And sometimes it makes us build better worlds.

Syllabus VIII Artist Sym Stellium reflects on this past year with the cohort 💭

“Meeting and collaborating with artists who align with my values and whose work inspires me to stretch outside my comfort zone, has been one of the most rewarding elements of my Syllabus journey. Understanding what others are fascinated / obsessed / possessed by, and how this can be integrated into a curated programme has been a nourishing experience. It’s been a pleasure to work both within and outside the realms of arts organisations whilst sinking our teeth into ideas of mutual aid and alternative systems to sustain artists. The connections and learnings will continue to unfurl and ripple out/inward.”

Sym will be performing as part of Fierce Festivals programme 'Fierce Jams' on 18th June, and facilitating one of LADA's Do It Together (DIT) peer-to-peer professional development programmes in Birmingham, in collaboration with Fierce Festival and Performance, Possession & Automation (pp+a). They will also be starting a Master's at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in Experimental Performance in September.

🕯️forgive me, Lorde, for I am not a warrior
@SymStellium

Sym will call upon our Trans and Queer ancestors – channeling energies of courage, experimentation, and the erotic. Join them to commune, share, and attempt to find ways of enduring these times together.

Using Audre Lorde’s ‘Uses of the Erotic’ as a grounding force – Sym re-centers notions of trans embodied presence and eroticism, through the ability to show up wholly and feel deeply, in both lamentation and joy.

Join us for a ceremony of (self)possession – held in St Ninians Church – as we look back and bear witness to the struggles our ancestors lived and died through. Tapping into a wisdom that existed long before us.

🐝 Rituals of remembrance, intimate moments of care, and explorations of labour & identity – check out these highlights from day 2 of BUZZCUT Festival

🕯️ @SymStellium invites you to remember and celebrate our Trans ancestors in this ritual of collectivity. At once a joyful celebration and deep lamentation. Join us in St Ninians church for a performance that honours the energy, wisdom, and resilience of the Trans & Queer people who came before us. Whilst asking how we can endure these times together.

✏️ @GemmaJonesPerformance explores how drawing can soothe and manage life with chronic pain. ‘Draw With Me’ re-contextualises this personal practice into a gentle 1-on-1 performance that foregrounds vulnerability, care, and radical tenderness.
⚫ Gemma will stage an online version of this work on Fri 17

🍜 For 8 hours, 8 minutes, and 8 seconds SeanWaiKeung invites you to join him as he prepares noodle dishes from scratch in this intimate performance. ‘Hand-Pulled’ examines stories of labour and identity through hospitality and the preparation of food.

forgive me, Lorde, for I am not a warrior @glasgowbuzzcut

16th April, 3-5pm St Ninian's Church

“The dichotomy between the spiritual and the political is also false, resulting from an incomplete attention to our erotic knowledge. For the bridge which connects them is formed by the erotic - the sensual - those physical, emotional, and psychic expressions of what is deepest and strongest and richest within each of us, being shared: the passions of love, in its deepest meanings.”

– Audre Lorde, Uses of the Erotic: The Erotics as Power

forgive me, Lorde, for I am not a warrior is a ritual of collectivity. Calling upon our trans and queer ancestors*, Sym will channel the energies of courage, experimentation and the erotic. You are invited to commune in the space and share an attempt at finding ways to endure these times together.

* Ancestor, in this context, is used knowing that trans people everywhere, in every time, are our kin.

Thank you to @shout_festival @hassan_hussain for letting me test out a WIP of this last year before my top surgery 🔮✨️ this is a special one.

I created sigils as part of this offering, channeling energies of: Audre Lorde & the erotic, SOPHIE & experimentation, Marsha P. Johnson & courage 🌹 honouring lineages, always.

Whispers of moments in Harstad, June '25 🌀

Got to reunite with @christopherwilles & @adamkinner___ to perform MANUAL at @festspillnn in Harstad bibliotek alongside @evasvaneblom 🖤

This is also a love note to the land that held me in respite, and to the sauna and ocean (and back again) and to the sun that didn't set and to the midsommer sky and the mountains that surrounded us, immovable, assuring

And to MANUAL, a piece that continues to shapeshift across continents ☁️✨️ taken in Harstad, Norway by @symstellium
