The plot:
Kept my eyes to the sky all day on Friday, wondering if the clouds would part.

5:30pm rolls by and I decide to take my chances. I text @abitofphotos as he was interested in this shot. I tell him that I’ll pick him up by 7:15pm and that will give us plenty of time to get there and set up by 7:55pm to get our alignment at 8:05pm.

While I thought leaving my house at 6:45 was ample time, I hit massive traffic on the Walt Whitman Bridge due to the Eagles preseason game.

ETA to Adam continuously creeps up; 7:23, 7:27, 7:28, 7:29, 7:33. And we had 40 blocks to cover once I pick him up.

Adam, ever the selfless one, tells me to forget him and go.
Like a loyal soldier on the frontlines to his wounded comrade, I tell him as I’m one of the most stubborn and determined people ever; no chance I’m doing that.

Finally scoop him around 7:35ish. Peel off, weaving in and out of lanes all through West Philly (sorry if I made you queasy with my aggressive driving, Adam).

We park by 7:57 and haul ass up the steps. There, we meet @andewnotar who’s already set up and waiting for us.

8:05 hits; cloud cover and no moon. Just my luck. However, we weren’t ready to pack it in. We begin to see a faint glow through the clouds. The crown of the moon starts peaking out. While a few minutes late, the full moon finally made its appearance in all its glory. While it wasn’t quite the alignment we wanted, our efforts certainly did not go to waste.

The only thing that went wrong was I left my tripod in the car amidst the rush. Had to shoot this free-hand and at 10,000 ISO 😁 taken in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by @t.do___

A shot worth losing sleep over.
-
Monday night into Tuesday morning. I was exhausted but couldn’t sleep at all. Was it the nerves/sadness of my oldest moving out to college later on in the day? Was it trying to figure out how I’m going to tackle some DIY projects before fall? Was it trying to figure out some moves at work before the end of the year? Was it planning out the details for this shot? Maybe one, maybe all, added together.

Had to be up by 2am for this shot to get moonset at 3:22am over the Philadelphia skyline. Tried forcing myself to sleep at 10:30pm to no such luck.

This was definitely my most ambitious shot to date and I wanted to make sure I had an understanding of the app that I used to assist with this shot. 15 miles north of the city; weather was perfect, no humidity or haze in the air. Great finally getting a chance to shoot alongside @roman.farandaway. His 6 foot+ frame definitely put my fear of being out in the dark at that hour at ease. To many more.
