A 12 string guitar, a tavern, and a voice carrying an indescribable feeling. A genre of Portuguese music rooted in expressing melancholy and longing, fado is best described by the Portuguese word with no direct translation- the sentiment of saudade.

My only regret from my trip to Lisbon is that I didn't explore more of Portugal.

@taberna_lx_to, which opened up in Toronto last year, instantly brought me back. From the iconic mosaic flooring to the bottles of Ginjinha lining the back bar, the space captures the spirit of Portugal in a way that feels familiar rather than theatrical.

Traditional ingredients ground the menu in Portuguese cuisine, while the dishes push beyond the clichés we've come to expect outside the country. Behind the bar, @isabo.leblanc has built one of the restaurant's biggest draws with a cocktail program that celebrates Portugal through spirits, aperitivos and liqueurs like Per Se, Beirão and Ginjinha - offering a taste of the country's drinking culture alongside its food. taken in Taberna Lx by @taberna_lx_to
