TIME TO EAT!!!! 🕌🥣

The 4th out of 5 mandatory daily prayers for Muslims happens at sunset. During Ramadan, that also marks Iftar, the meal to break the fast for the day.

In most cities, the call to prayer can be heard from a nearby mosque. But in Fez, where the medina (old town) is the world’s largest car-free urban area by population, made up of 9,400 narrow winding streets and alleys, there’s a bit more commotion.

First a siren sounds, followed by the blast of the cannon, and then the call to prayer spreads across the medina from over 200 mosques. What starts as a few isolated voices slowly grows to an orchestra of loudspeakers letting everyone know IT’S TIME TO EAT (and pray 🤣).

This level of noise and excitement was unmatched and powerful to witness. If you’re ever visiting Morocco during Ramadan, be sure to spend some time on a terrace in Fez at sunset. ❤️ by @tabifox
