Congratulations @kayapress for the official launch of #kulharbooks at The Friday Gallery last night

This is Sadubas, in front of the epic photographic work of Iraqi artist Halim Al-Kirim currently on display The Friday Gallery @thefriday.gallery 🙏🏽

“Hal Al-Kirim’s work explores the fierce power of mythic beauty across time and culture - a force of spiritual and sensual nourishment that gives birth to hope. This is not gentle softness, but the electric vibrancy of untamed beauty that tears at our flesh, pierces our gaze, and stands in defiance of injustice with proud hands on hips.”

Special thanks to @neelanjanab and @missmitch for inviting us to perform 🌹 taken in The ROW DTLA by @tablapusher

This happened! Reena Esmail’s @reenaesmail “This Love Between Us” was presented in its full glory by over 125 musicians of the orchestras and choirs at @uncgsom @uncg_orchestras @uncgchoirs ❤️

It was a joy to share the stage with my dear friend John Stephens on sitar. I’m so grateful to Carole Ott @carolejeanott and Gavin Douglass @gavinduncandouglas for bringing me and this extraordinary music to North Carolina.

I’m so glad my family in Greensboro could attend!

The deeply moving 40 minute oratorio is spiritual, unifying, emotional, energetic, introspective, and profoundly moving. This is the second time I’ve performed the entire oratorio, and it always uplifts me. Can anything be more sublime than to be surrounded by this many cellos, strings, the choir, and wind instruments? Can the message that we need to avoid division, and come together through kindness and compassion be any more relevant?

Thank you to Chris Tebbit @chris_tebbit for many of these pictures and video. #uncg #choir #orchestra taken in UNCG Auditorium by @tablapusher

Moments from last night’s Raga Kaushi Kanada performed by Visionary States at Walt Disney Concert Hall ❤️

We presented two midnight ragas as an energetic balm to close the 12 hour concert series Noon to Midnight curated by @ellenreidmusic and @dubfrosty and presented by @laphil and @pstinla

It was a joy to share the stage with @aakashflute @sitarrajib qnd my son Kailash (was way past his bedtime!), who triggered field recordings from nature via #ableton during our set.

Thank you @ameet3000 for the capture! #n2m #raga #indianclassical taken in Walt Disney Concert Hall by @tablapusher

Really excited to be part of Living Landscapes: Ecology of Rasa, an ambitious three-night immersive experience at the USC Pacific Asia Museum @usc_pam November 19–21 led by visionary artist @gautam_rangan

What makes this project especially meaningful to me is how it weaves together so many of the worlds I’ve inhabited and loved throughout my life: Indian classical music and dance, poetry, electronica, technology, visual art, and sculpture. These forms aren’t presented alongside one another so much as placed into conversation, creating an environment where sound, movement, language, image, and space can reshape how we experience each other.

Inspired by 16th-century Ragamala paintings, Living Landscapes explores the idea of rasa, the emotional worlds that art creates and that we experience together.

I’m grateful to be contributing tabla to the performance program, working with composer Aashray Harishankar @escapistmusic , the extraordinary Arpana Dance Company, and multidisciplinary artist Gautam Rangan, in collaboration with Kaya Press @kayapress ❤️

And on opening night, November 19, another one of my worlds enters the conversation. SADUBAS @sadubas , featuring longtime friend and collaborator Ameet Mehta @ameet3000 , will perform a special ambient set as audiences explore the installation, blending live tabla, electronic soundscapes, cinematic projection, and Bollywood psychedelia.

That continuum means a lot to me: tabla as an ancient rhythmic language, but also as a living technology. Classical dance alongside interactive projection. Poetry inhabiting sculpture and space. Electronica in dialogue with traditions that stretch back centuries.

This is where I love to be: between forms, between histories, between the classical and the experimental, seeing what becomes possible when they meet.

Grateful to USC Visions and Voices @uscvandv and the USC Pacific Asia Museum for creating space for this kind of interdisciplinary imagination.

A legendary local North Carolina curatorial art expert interviewed my mom this week, and it was everything. ❤️

This hand-embroidered Ganesh, created by my mom @saroj.sukhadia and hanging in her home, has been seen by millions.

My mom is an incredible visual artist, and I realize more and more how deeply her sense of color, texture, beauty and aesthetics has shaped my own creative imagination. My sis has that accent nailed down. Yes, I’m married. taken in Greensboro, North Carolina by @tablapusher

Still feeling the energy from Deevona in Chicago. 🔊❤️

Packed in close. Everyone moving. Music everywhere. No real separation between artists and audience, just all of us grooving together.

What stayed with us most from Chicago was the community that formed around this night. Artists watching and supporting each other’s sets. Tikka masala calzones. Friends, families, neighbors, and people who had just met squeezed together in the same space. Conversations between performances. People dancing inches from us. And when the rain pushed everyone closer together, the whole thing somehow became even warmer and more connected.

@spaceshiftcollective created that feeling with real intention and care, a space where artists and community weren’t separate from each other, but part of the same experience.

Chicago, we felt the love. ❤️‍🔥 thank you @faisalmohyuddin and @asewonder for the videos. #chicago taken in Chicago, IL by @tablapusher

Stevie Wonder @steviewonderlegacy had powerful words to share with us, words that echoed the themes running throughout the expansive “Songs in the Key of Life”:

“If you want to make anything great again, Make Love Great Again.” ❤️

Fifty years after the album’s release, its call toward love, humanity, justice and our responsibility to one another feels as vital as ever.

@uscthornton ’s “Songs in the Key of Life at 50: Reimagined” brought that extraordinary body of music to life through our students, faculty and alumni, alongside guest artists Tone Stith, Avery Wilson, Cory Henry, LaVance Colley and Jeffery Lewis.

The evening was co-curated by Dean Jason King @jasonkingsays and the legendary Greg Phillinganes @greg_phillinganes_live , Stevie’s longtime collaborator and musical director, and now a member of our Thornton faculty.

And then Stevie himself joined our students onstage for “Love’s in Need of Love Today.” Sublime, miraculous, uplifting. To witness our students sharing that song with Stevie, 50 years later, was something I will never forget. #steviewonder taken in USC Thornton School of Music by @tablapusher

Still processing the magic of last night.

@uscthornton ‘s “Songs in the Key of Life at 50: Reimagined” was conceived as a one-night-only celebration of the 50th anniversary of Stevie Wonder’s landmark album, bringing together our extraordinary USC Thornton students, faculty and alumni with guest artists including @tonestith @averywilson @lavancecolley @coryhenry and @iamjefferylewis .

The evening was co-curated by @jasonkingsays and @uscvandv and the legendary @greg_phillinganes_live , Stevie’s longtime collaborator, keyboardist and musical director, and now a member of our Thornton faculty. Greg provided musical direction, with Jason directing the production, as part of Thornton’s Beyond Category initiative.

And then something happened that none of us will ever forget: Stevie Wonder @steviewonderlegacy himself joined our students onstage.

Here they are singing “Love’s in Need of Love Today.” Watching our students share the stage with one of the greatest artists of our time, singing words that feel as urgent and necessary today as they did 50 years ago, was almost beyond description.

Sublime. Miraculous. Uplifting.

What a night. What a gift. ❤️

Huge gratitude to @spaceshiftcollective for inviting SADUBAS to be part of Deevona Sound System ❤️

The #chicago rains brought everyone closer together. What could have scattered the energy instead made the whole experience feel more intimate, communal, and alive. We loved every minute of it.

It was incredibly special to share the stage with so many brilliant artists, in a space that felt so intentionally curated, with real care for the music, the neighborhood, the artists, and the many diasporic stories moving through it all.

Thank you SpaceShift for creating a space where experimentation, community, and culture could genuinely meet. Chicago, you were beautiful. Special thanks to @sidsid96 and Kitundu for the videos ❤️ by @tablapusher
